Hello,
I have retired to northern New Mexico from Seattle and only yesterday first heard of the Pecos wilderness area 45 for elk, bighorn sheep and Mule deer. Apparently this huge area starts about ten miles south/west of me. Apparently there is a good elk herd in the wilderness and a pretty fair herd of sheep. I was told that Mule deer do exist inn this wiilderness, but not so many, which in an area dominated by elk seems perfectly natural to me. What I do not understand is that I was told that due to the amount of backpacking in this huge area that the sheep are more used to people than in other areas I have been aware of. Apparently drawing a tag is extremely difficult. This being so, why do they allow 1/2 curl rams to be legally taken?
If anyone wished to share info on area 45, I would be happy to receive it.
