I drew a tag for Unit 36 elk this year and was wondering if anybody's got any scouting done..unfortunately I've been unable to make a trip yet and was wondering how the elk are doing down there.
Which season? Lots of the burned areas are going to remain closed through archery season. I saw several good bulls last January when I had an archery deer tag and spent a week running around there.
I was there 2 weeks ago with one of my buddies scouting for his archery tag. We saw a ton of elk - a few real big ones in the 340 range. The burned areas are going to force a lot of people to be hunting in the same areas.
I'm going to hunt the first archery season was looking for a good starting point. The burned areas have me scrambling around without the time to get out there again before season. any help would be appreciated, anyone know anyone local that would guide for a few days?
I hunted 36 last year after the burn don"t let it discourage you there are still some good isolated areas in the burn that are huntable and some of the edges are great areas if you find the right spots. It got pretty dry agiain this spring but did not have much effect on the quality.
