unit 34

I was wondering if any of yall had hunted in unit 34 recently. It has been about 15 yrs since friends have hunted there and we were wondering. Are they or have they closed roads in inside the unit. we have an old map and show a lot of roads. Colorado has closed so many just wondering if it is same in new mexico. we are headed out to look around next month but just reading maps trying to get familiar. thanks for all the info.

Hunted turkey in 34 last spring (2013) and went scouting out there last fall for Elk. Lots of open roads in there.

There are roads all throughout the unit. Some are much better than others though. As long as you have a 4x4 vehicle, you'll have no issues getting anywhere. I actually had trouble getting away from the roads on foot last december on my hunt.

I've hunted 34 a bunch and could have hunted all of it with my kids VW jetta. I wouldn't worry too much about roads. I had to stop and wait for a bull to walk across the hwy one morning and he wasn't in much of a hurry either. Biggest bull I've seen in NM came out of the trees and walked down the gravel road headed to that same hwy about 1/4 mile away.

sheets and bob thank yall for your input. we are3 weeks 3 three days from leaving getting way pumped. all I hear is good about this unit.

Good unit but hundreds of tags every year have shot the top end out of it. If you're thinking 350 you'll be real disappointed. 280 is a pretty good bull nowadays.

meat in the freezer with a 280 bull with a bow will be a successful trip for me just saying. but any day hunting sure beats a day at work
