Hello, I have a unit 2/201 antelope muzzleloading tag for late october in colorado. This summer has been busy, and I haven't had a chance to explore the unit as much as I wanted. I was able to find some decent antelope in unit 201, but am a bit stumped on unit 2. I'm hoping somebody out there might live or work in the area and point me in the right general direction where I might start looking. I've tried contacting the local biologist; but haven't heard back from him/her.

It is a big unit, i'm really excited about hunting such vast country with the opportunity for a mature buck. Thanks in advance.

You draw a tag like that and don't put your time in and scout? Then your very first post is on the forum is asking for help and specifics from the locals? I don't get it.

Good luck,

My dad drew a deer tag for unit 2 this year so we have been out there scouting but I have not seen many good speed goats. I would look north in the unit if I were you like HiMtnHnter said.

Good luck,
honestly sometimes people can't take off weekends and go scout, ya it's a great tag to have but not everyone can take off work or make a quick trip up the mountain to scout. He wasnt askin for a secret spot just simply asking for a pointer on where to start. It is a huge unit an as someone have him a quick pointer can help someone out immensely in their quest for success. Thought we were all sportsman out here and helping each other an sticking together is what we do. If I had much knowledge I'd help the guy out if I could. You can't tell me you guys have never asked for a pointer out hunting. Return a favor if possible and if you don't have any info then at least give the guy a little hope for his hunt. Good luck man post pics when your successful
And who cares what his first post is, maybe he just recently found the forum and thought this was a group of great guys. Cause honestly it is I've learned a lot on here and until now haven't seen much negative criticism from members. I have left other forums for that reason if ur not part of "the main group" then ur a nobody that doesn't know anything. I live in Craig and most of the good antelope I have been seeing are either on private in unit 3 or right on the Wyoming border so I think along the border is a good place to start on ur quest. Make sure you know the state line with ur gps or phone. And if to can't get out to scout before the hunt no worries man ur just gonna have to work a little harder an maybe put on more miles during the hunt. Ur best bet I think is to find water cause it is still dry up here.

If you get meat from the store then dont criticize me for having the courage to go out and kill my own meat

I hunted this unit 10 years ago. PM me your contact info and I will share what I can. As noted in other posts the north end of Unit 2 is where I scored. A gps with chip will help as some better areas were on the state line.

I really appreciate the info from people offering it up. I'm not looking to swipe anyone's spots - just looking for info from someone who may have had a chance to hunt this area in years past. It took me 11 points to draw the tag and will be willing to offer up any info from this year in the future. Again, thanks for the leads - looking ahead!

North and east of lookout mountain. Not a lot of antelope in 2, but there are some nice ones. Find water as noted above.

It kinda sounds like where I hunted in NV this year. The antelope were in pockets here and there. Some places dont have any and others have quite a few when you find them. Cover some country and keep looking, you will find them. I put over 500 miles on my truck off pavement in 9 days scouting and it payed off taking a great buck the 2nd day of the season. Good Luck on your hunt!

Gypsum, that was far from negative criticism. I was surprised he drew such a great coveted tag and hadn't put the time in that tag deserves. I agree sometimes life can get in the way and not everyone can put the effort in scouting, but me personally I would never apply for a tag like unless I knew and was committed to giving it the time it deserves and or had some good knowledge of the area prior to applying. I am not saying my way is right just defending my comment which obviously came across wrong. I wished him good luck, and do hope he scores. Lighten up a little bit eh? Its hunting season after all.
