Fellas,
I drew a unit 111-113 muzzleloader mule deer tag for this fall. I am just beginning my research for the units and had some general questions. I plan on the deer still being high and don?t plan on them being next to the roads but would a quad be useful? I would rather not take it but I also don?t want to unnecessarily beat up my truck. So, how are the roads? Also, how is the availability of water in the area, specifically in unit 111? And if I came out for a scouting/family trip and towed my travel trailer can any recommend a campsite to stay that?s family friendly? I appreciate any help anyone could provide. Thanks,
Brian

I typed this on my phone and have no idea why there are so many unnecessary question marks. Sorry

Question Marks are dude to Tapatalk not your writing.

You really won’t need a quad there are lots of roads that you can travel on with your pickup. The east side of 111 is good. Plenty’s of rolling hills with juniper trees and water.

Thank you for the information Ikeepitcold. I don’t want to bring a quad but my father in law offered his up and I’ve hunted in a few spots in the past where I beat the heck out of my truck. Thanks,
Brian

A nice place to camp is Cave Lake State Park. I have actually camped there and hunted the area. It's in the southern portion of 111. Checkout the road behind the lake some nice area to glass. Then do Success Loop and just scout around lots of roads to explore. Go south to Hwy 893 to checkout the east side. Not as many roads to explore. You can glass from the main road and see the difficulty you will have to get to them, yes you will see them. Take Kalamazoo Cr road it will take you over the top and connect with Success loop(careful if it is wet can be mighty slippery). Then after you've do some scouting you can do a little fishing.

Rsnk61, that is some great advice. The area up behind Cave Lake looked really good when I was out there elk hunting last year. We actually seen a really good buck chasing does in there while scouting. It is pretty open country that is good for glassing. The main roads up there are also relatively decent. I spent most of my elk hunt in 114/115 though. The roads over there were much worse and my truck would've thanked me had I brought a wheeler! :)

Good luck on your hunt!

Thank you all for the help. I’m headed out next week for a scouting trip. I’m really looking forward to laying eyes on the unit rather than just staring at maps! Thanks,
Brian
