I've always been a huge fan of the rocky mountain gator head, been shooting them for like 20 years and deer sized game. When I saw the Ulmer I new I had to try them out! After doing some testing and seeing others test results I decided to take them with me on my archery hunt for elk down in Wy this past fall!
I ended up taking a bull I thought I'd only dream about, cutting him and his herd off and getting a 26 yard broadside shot!
I was shooting an Axis arrow out of an Elite archery Z28 bow set at 60# and 29.5" draw.
The shot took him high lung, the Ulmer had to bust those big ribs going in and coming out "THWACK!" The axis shaft was buried up to the vanes and when he turned to blow out of there I could see the Ulmer sticking about a foot out his off side and I knew he was in big trouble! He ended up running down hill and piling up only about 60 yards away, he was dead in seconds!
The broadhead looked to be in perfect condition, not bent or chipped up. I could definitely use it again.
So I have to give it two big thumbs up!
Look for my story in an upcoming EBJ!
