Several years ago my daughter and I drew 'one elk' tags in Muderers Creek . I'd done well there deer hunting and with these tags our first ever elk hunt had a good chance of success. I was loading the trailer a couple of days before heading out and about 11 pm got one of those calls we all dread. My 30 year old son had suffered a major stroke. Obviously that put and end to that hunting trip. Son survived regained the ability to walk and even drive.:D
Daughter has since moved to Idaho and my new Son-In-Law is now my hunting partner. You know the drill . Vacation time settled, new camo purchased , new Kwik Kamp stove, this would be his second hunting trip ever. Today we learned the wife needs sugery and it will be on 11/9 and require 5-7 days in hospital. (Its major but expected to go very well :) ) Of course it busted Elk season to bits. Season opens on the 7th.
To get to the point; Called OF&W at their main office and was passed over to another office just once. Gave a brief explanation to the gal and she said she would send the proper form, to reinstate lost points, by e-mail. It arrived in minutes. As quick and painless as any private organization. The form is simple and to the point. The only additional requirement is documentation from the attending physician.

Good luck with your wife's surgery. The hunting trips u planned sound like they have been tough to swallow. Your time will come and you will have an enjoyable hunt. Way to be a man and cancel your trip and support your wife. Good luck with everything.

First of all, thoughts and prayers for your wife, you and your family. Being very family oriented myself, I understand completely. As important as hunting is, family always comes first. I hope a full recovery for your wife and a very successful hunt for you next chance you get. You have made me realize that this forum just may be good for sharing more than just hunting. Best to your and yours.

The surgical team of Ching&Chang (no kidding) plied their trade over a six hour process Monday with success. Connie has been up for short walks and may leave hospital by the weekend . She'll have about six weeks with a 3# lifting limit, so that means no much at all. So looking forward to '16 and renewed health and vigor, not to mention next years Elk season .

OFW has reinstated the points lost and added one for this year changing our status to 'unsuccessful'. The process took less than three weeks from when we sent in the paper work.
Now I'll be asking ya'll about the best place to use them up .

Last week Connie started running a fever. Infection in the same place located by CAT scan. Another drain implant ,two weeks minimum. The anti-biotics dont seem to help. She has to sleep in a recliner , still carrying a mild fever. Naturally she is worried about another batch of surgery and another long recovery.

The plans were for me to leave Thursday before light ,meet the Possum in Dayville and head from there to make camp. Now its up to the surgeon ,meeting today at 2.

DR Ching was able to fix some problems associated with the appliance and the culture revealed that while occupying the same location this infection is hosted by a different bug. Altering the drug plan will stop the infection ,cure the fevers and avoid surgery. Connie learns this while I'm parking the car and finding the way back.

After a 10 minute wait in the outer office Connie appears at the door ' You're going hunting'....12715761_10206047231365810_8793198798882099361_n.jpg Some gal eh?

Truck is fueled and loaded :)

IMG_3740 (1).jpg Saw deer by the dozen, including a nice little forked horn who wandered into camp. More than half the days hunting we saw two legal bucks , several within 100'. And a great number of horses, I'd heard there is a problem in Murder's Creek but ...wow. They came into camp on three occasions, and we never went out with out seeing several. Weather was beautiful following a good rain , the woods were quiet and the tracks fresh.

We heard of two bulls and one cow taken in our area, we never saw so much as a track and we hunted very hard. Had a great time with the Possum and spending my last day of vacation unloading and helping Connie. Thanx for the good wishes.

You're right I am quite lucky indeed.

I dont need to say this here, but this is how we Deplorables leave elk camp;IMG_3744.jpg
