Turret Type Scope for Lightweight Magnum Rifle

I am swapping scopes on rifles as I need scopes for two new rifles (28 Nosler & 6.5 Creedmoor).

I think the best move is a new scope for my main hunting rifle (Christensen Arms 300 WSM, titanium Remington short action, titanium break, carbon fiber stock). Back when I had a Leupold VX3 4.5-14 scope on it, it was a 6.5 pound set-up (with scope). The last few years I have had a Nightforce NXS 3.5-15X50 but the rifle put on about a pound (30 oz scope). I am rarely dialing over a few MOA, so I think I could go with something lighter for that rifle and make it more packable again and move the NXS to the 28 Nosler which is more geared to performance than shaving off weight.

Criteria:

Turret style (elevation) I prefer an exposed turret but open to a capped turret. I only need to dial about 20 MOA maximum.

Quality glass: I've been very happy with Leopold VX3 & Nightforce NX class of glass.

Power range: No higher than 4.5X on the low end and close to 15X on the high end

Second focal plane

Zero stop is preferred, but as long as I can count revs from the bottom back to zero, that is fine.

Weight: In the 16 to 20 ounce range

Reticle: MOA markings on the horizontal reticle in order to hold for wind.

Reliable: I can put up with repairs on most optics, but I have no patience with bad rifle scopes. I have had a handful of hard-earned shots at game messed up by bad scopes. When I have problems in the past with a scope, I'm done with the brand. I want NO problems with the 300 WSM as it has been a very reliable and accurate weapon.

Brands:

Leupold & Nightforce: I have a high confidence level

European Glass: I would be open to European glass like Leica, Zeiss, Swarovski, etc.

Vortex features are interesting but to be honest, I am concerned with the number of quality returns I have read about on forums, and I had one on a spotter (loose part rattling inside).

Redfield and Nikon have burned me in the past and I would likely not own another.

Top picks so far:

#1 Pick so far: 2.5-10X42 Nightforce NXS non-illuminated @ 19 ounces (would prefer a bit more power on the top end)

3-10X42 Nightforce SHV non-illuminated (would prefer a bit more power on the top end)

Huskemaw 3-12X42 (21 ounces) or 4-16X42 (22 ounces) but they are a tiny bit on the heavy side.

Taking the Leupold 4.5-14 I already have and have Leupold install an MOA reticle and CDS elevation turret but I would have no parallax adjustment.

Questions:

What other scope recommendations would you have?

Do you have experience with Huskemaw? I know they are used by some quality long range rifle companies.

What are your thoughts of the CDS turrets on Leupolds (tracking/robustness) as they look simple and light?

I have the huskemaw 5x20. One thing I like over the rest of the turrets is they take the math and all the equations out the picture. It's if you would a scope for dummy's.

I just bought a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 3-15x44 FFP with MOA reticle/ knobs and illumination. I doubt you'll like it but it's worked well for me (I've fired about 500 rounds through it so far).

I have had good luck with my cds type scope from leupold. 4.5-14x40cds,4.5-14x50vxL cds, and 4.5-14 40mm and 50mm long range. These I like better than previous 2 because of side focus option. Got a vx6 last year with 2 turn zero stop . It has tracked consistently to 850yds. I do like the vx6 better than the Nightforce shv. I was down to these 2 when choosing and chose the vx6.
Now I do feel the nxs has a better feeling dial system. Its also a much more proven design. I just couldn't justify this much scope on my hunting rifle I was putting together. Want accurate and light as I could shoot well. The other one I looked at really hard and probably like the best was the swaro 3-18x44 Z5. With aftermarket turret set up. Really liked it. Couldn't find enough reviews for the dial setup for actual longevity. Did find a few good and few negative so that pushed me back to vx6. Most my hunting rifles wear a vx3 or vxIII but I really like the cds system. Gets me dialed to most realistic shooting distance I shoot. If I wanted to shoot over 700 then would choose the vx6,shv,nxs,atac,huskemaw. Also leupold is only a half hr drive for me and know some who work there. Kind of like companies that are close. As Nightforce is in orofino, which I like too.

Take a look at the Leupold VX-5 series, 3-15x44 CDS with the ZL2 turret. Zero lock 2 locks the turret, you depress a button to dial for distance, then dial it back and it locks. Eliminates the unplanned dial movement concern.

Leopold is on my crap list for a while, well at least their custom shop is. But I would go with the Leopold. For the price that you pay for them they are second to none.

I'm leaning the Leupold direction after browsing the internet this afternoon.

So there are some great prices on some new, but obsolete, Leupold VX-6 with CDS (single revolution turret). How do you think the optical quality of that scope compares to the current Leupold VX-5HD (ZL2 turret)? The prices are similar between the two scopes right now. If there is a significant optical advantage with the VX-6, I may check into if the VX-6 turret could potentially be upgraded at a later date. One revolution of adjustment should work for me since I only need 10 MOA of adjustment out to 600 yards.

EDIT: I am thinking the older VX-6 have a capped elevation turret.

I've not compared the two for optical quality. Am sure either has plenty for what you are planning.

I personally like the multi crosshair reticles, Leupold and Zeiss both have nice options.

no turret to adjust, crosshairs to 500, 600, 800 yards...

I have always wanted a Zeiss Conquest and then add the turrets. I have a few of their scopes, before you could add turrets to them and really like them. Much better scopes than the vortex I have with turrets. imo

Also I think that the vx5,vx6,vx6hd all have 20moa per revolution now. I am not 100% positive on the vx5 though. With 2 turn zero stop the button uses up about 2 moa. So you get 38moa total.

So just as an update, I went with the Leopold VX-6 3-18X44 with a fine Duplex reticle. On sale from Natchez for a pretty deep discount ($440 off plus another 10% if ordered today).

https://www.natchezss.com/leupold-vx-6-rifle-scope-3-18x44mm-30mm-side-focus-cds-zl-fine-duplex-matte.html

I will likely upgrade the turrets through the Leopold Custom Shop to what they are calling the "VX6 Target Tactical Dials". They are a mid height dial with clear 1/4 MOA markings and a stop, though not an exact zero stop, it stops slightly below zero. This will give the scope a feel very much like the Nightforce NXS that was on my rifle, but at a 10 ounce savings.

Here is a link to the video of those turrets:

I can also later update the reticle if I feel I would like a reticle to hold wind
