Trying to start a network of hunters...

I've had a hard time finding hunting partners the last few years. I've voiced this on the forum before and know others have the same problem. I should clarify... finding hunting partners isn't that tough but finding dedicated partners that don't look at you like your crazy when you tell them how far you plan to hike or that your planning to glass a hillside until dark and hike back by headlamp is getting hard to find. Most guy's don't even want to hunt the whole season let alone spend the time and or money it takes to be successful.

I've made a couple contacts on this forum that have real potential. They have potential because most guy's on this forum are like minded and have the desire to hunt hard. Hunting to most of us is a priority and we spend most of our extra free time and money on our hunting pursuits. One guy I met on here (I won't mention his name in case he doesn't want me to) and I have been communicating by email, text, and phone calls for a few months. We applied in NM together but unfortunately struck out. Another guy, I've talked back and forth with recently definitely has the same mind set as me and I'm hoping we can get together sometime to explore more hunting possibilities together.

After making these contacts, it got me thinking... if there was a network of like minded guys put together it would benefit all of us. We could strategize, get tips from one another, apply for hunts together if possible and most importantly, find hunting partners! We could all compare points accumulated and see if anyone else is saving points for a particular species/ state we're interested in hunting. This way there would hopefully always be a potential hunting partner available if and when you drew a hunt either in Colorado or in another state.

I posted this in the Colorado section thinking it would be nice to find local guy's but that isn't a requirement. I think this should be a give and take network. You have to be willing or interested in helping other guy's to be successful and in return get some help yourself. So, if your thinking you might join this network to benefit you on a certain hunt either by getting good intel or getting someone to go with you who has more knowledge than you in a certain state or species but your not willing to return the favor, that wouldn't be what I have in mind. Of course anyone is interested in joining and I'm not going to ask your intentions. Just keep in mind this should be a get a little, give a little thing.

To get this started... if this sounds like something you might be interested in, please send me a PM with your email address so I can add you to the list. I'll start by sending out an initial email so everyone has everyone else's email address. We can start some discussions from there. This seems like a great idea in my mind but maybe not to everyone? It may flop if there's no interest but at least I tried! I emptied out my inbox for all the PM's I'm sure to get, LOL! :p

If there's any questions or suggestions, please feel free to reply to this thread. This is just my initial thoughts and going to be a work in progress I'm sure! Thanks for taking the time to read this.

That's been my biggest problem here. Either guys just want to go get drunk away from the wives or clam up and won't share anything. Including fitness tips or pack gear ideas, let alone good hunt areas.

Great idea. I think you have my email but I will resend.
It is kind of weird. I would think the guys out west would have plenty of buddies who would have the same interest when it comes to hunting and fishing. However coming from the southeast not a lot of people have that western big game passion and desire. Guess cause it's 2000 miles away and a lot of money. This should work well.

Well... less than 24 hours from when I posted this and already received quite a few PM's! More than I anticipated so soon. That's great! I think the more people who are interested the better it will be for everyone involved. Keep the PM's coming!

I think this is a great idea. I just recently exchanged with someone the same concept. Will send a pm

As for fitness tips, ask away, I'd be glad to help.

God luck. I was in the same boat when I moved to CO 8 years ago. Then I talked a friend into moving here and we have it made. We are both retired and have a lot of time for scouting and hunting. Being new to CO sometimes it's hard to pry info from other hunters though.

Great idea! I'm new to Colorado but am an experienced Arizona hunter. After hiking and backpacking some CO high country, I thinking that hunting buddies are also a necessity to help pack out the meat (I'm not afraid to help out either). PM sent.

Been here 15 years since I too retired and sometimes I feel like I just got here too!

Keep the PM's coming if your interested in this! I figured I might get 5 or 6 PM's... yeah right, I've gotten 4 or 5 times that many! I'm leaving town tomorrow afternoon for a week so I won't be getting or replying to any PM's until I get back. Thanks...
