Haven't been on Eastmans for awhile so I missed the time frame where I could have been the only one to offer hands on advice for the op. I'm sure the number of folks on Eastmans that have hunted the Trout Creeks could be counted on one hand and have fingers left over! Hard to give advise or help in that aspect.
I've spent quite a bit of time in that part of southeast Oregon and I hunted the Trout Creeks in 2004, arrived 4 days prior to the opener, and killed my buck on the last day. Spent a total of 16 straight days and hunted from one end to the other. In my opinion deer density was seriously lacking and big trophy quality bucks, 180 plus, were non-existent. I saw one buck that may have pushed the 185/190 number and ran out of daylight with him. I know it hasn't improved since then. The Trout Creeks, IMO, are over rated and with ODFW increasing the tag quota by 50% those bucks will be in shorter supply. I won't be burning my preference points there.
Glad the hunt turned out for Bigbull, looks like he didn't need the help.
