I am looking for a tripod head that I can use with my Vortex Razor 16-48-65 angled spotting scope, Canon vixia R500 video camera and Panasonic FN28 digital camera. I am going to primarily use it with the spotting scope and I plan on packing it in this year on a Wyoming backcountry mule deer hunt so weight needs to be considered. I am currently looking at the Manfrotto 700rc2 head but am open to suggestions. The tripod I am using is a Schonfeld carbon fiber small tripod. Do you guys have any other suggestions for a quality tripod head that wont break the bank? I have looked at so many that they are beginning to look the same! Thanks in advance for all of your input!

I use the Promaster 6160 pan head with my Promaster 525 carbon tripod. I have the Vortex Razor HD 65mm spotter and this setup works well. The head is listed at about 17 ounces. I have no doubt that there are better tripod heads, but this one works well and I think you could find one for somewhere around $50.

I run the Manfrotto MK294 ball head works great for me. Then i also have a Slik Pro II for back pack hunts. They were just having a sale on cabelas for the manfrotto.

I am using the manfrotto 496rc2, which replaced a 327rc2 (rock solid, but too heavy).

I really like the 496 for the weight and it handles a 80mm spotter very well. I also use it for tripod-mounted binos.

The tripod is a Promaster T525P, which I absolutely love. My wife uses a Sirui T-025x which is great for binos or smaller scope, but doesn't work well for a very large spotter.

Lots of good threads on tripod set-ups. Placed an order today for Promaster XC525C tripod and a Vanguard PH-111v head from S&S Archery. Thanks to all who have posted that made the research easy.

I picked up a Vangard PH 302 window mount to try with my Vortex compact spotter. I'll report back when a review is warranted.
