I have had to travel for work quite a bit in the last three weeks sleeping in hotels mostly. About every time I travel I catch some form of sickness from these hotels. Stuffy nose/sinus/cough.... These hotels and airplanes are cesspools of germs...

Does anyone have any recommendations on a preventative medication I can take to keep this from happening?

I was so sick when I got home Friday that I didn't even turkey hunt Saturday OR Sunday.

Ya......its that bad.

Carry sanitizing wipes with you and wipe down everything in your room you touch.

The number one thing you can do to prevent illness is to properly wash your hands often. Hand sanitizer counts if not visibly soiled.

Making sure you are healthy to begin with is critical. Exercise, eat right, rest.

I agree with ^^^

My dad carries a small bottle of hand sanitizer and is OCD about it. Seems to work for him

The last couple of years before I retired I was on the road about 60% of my working time. I learned that the phones in the hotel rooms were the worst for germs. I also used a lot of hand sanitizer and washed my hands so much I had to start using a moisturizer to keep them looking human. I also took doses of Echinacea and if I felt something coming on I would drink Airborn like it was beer.

When it finally came down to it all you can do is to make sure that your immune system is working. There is very little you can do on a plane with everyone sniffing, coughing, and rug rats (children) that are sick from infecting you. I also tried to spend as little time in the hotel room as I could, and I stayed in some of the better hotels.

The HVAC systems in hotels are very bad so I run it as little as possible. I also sleep on the bed furthest away from the unit, when possible.

I’ve seen some real bad filters in hotels before. If they are up on the maintenance it shouldn’t be too bad. At least the units are room specific rather a window banger or the wall unit type and not trying to filter the whole hotel.

I'm in good health and eat good. I wash my hand frequently as well.

I'm going to get me some of these Airborne you all are talking about. See if that helps me.

Probably drink too much Yuengling...but we all have our habits.

If I am not better by morning I'm going to the doctor...things are escalating quickly.

Thanks for the advice so far!

My son and I both had a couple of tables at our local gun show 2 weeks ago, both of us are suffering from colds now....my first in over 10 years. When I was on the B of D of a larger travel/boating club, we used to have a booth in some of the large travel shows. (Vegas, LA, San Fran) I used to run the booths and always came home with something...cold, flu, etc. When your around lots of people, hard not to catch something.

at the first hint that I may be getting a cold I will start on the airborne and very rarely(maybe??? once every 1-3 years or so) does a cold escalate to the point I really feel all that bad.

I wouldn't claim it will prevent getting sick but I firmly believe it will lessen the symptoms.

I often feel like crap while traveling, but for me I think it's because I tend to sleep poorly on the road. Bringing my own pillow seems to help.

Air travel causes problems because of the lower air pressure in the cabin and the dryness of the air inside it. Mind if I suggest lots of water?

Airborne, hand sanitizer and sleep. I was traveling almost 100% of the time and without airborne and sleep I got the flu twice in eight months. Nothing after.
