Ordered in some Attack pants, and also a few other items to try on for size.
Here's what I know:
Attack pants: I am normally between 34-36 waist. Ordered 36's and 38's. The smaller pair were just a bit snug, and the 38's give me room to add long-johns if needed. Very comfortable, just the right weight / warmth. Love the hip vents. Wish cargo pockets were a bit larger, but they will do. Keeping the Major Brown color...they will be a great compliment to the recently found Sitka Mt. Pants. It will be good to finally retire my old cotton BDU's.
Guide Jacket: Large was too tight and small. XL was great in arm length (I'm a bit of a gorilla), but the chest felt too snug. I tried on with base layer, fleece mid layer and it just felt too tight. Loved the material and features (zip pits and hood), but it still felt too tight.
Yukon Rain Jacket: again large was too small, but the XL was just right. Arm length was good. Much more room in the body vs. Guide Jacket, but I've read Kuiu does that because the rain-wear is meant as shell layer. If only the Guide Jacket fit like this. Very light coat. Well made.
Yukon Gaiters: I have never had gaiters before...the large fit perfectly. I have small calves. Looking forward to trying these in the field. On my other hunting pants, I've had the length hemmed and sewn in a shoelace so I can cinch down the bottoms. But that didn't help with moisture.
In the end:
I was considering going with the Yukon over the Guide, but I already have Cabela's MT05O Gore-Tex set. And the Yukon was a bit noisier than Guide. I circled back to the Guide Jacket later and tried on various base and insulation layers. I'm going to keep the Guide...the fit is very different than the Cabela's gear I own. I can get base layer, poly long sleeve, and fleece under the Guide comfortably. Will just have to adjust to the different fit. And I'm probably 10 lbs heavier than normal right now.
Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. Season starts Nov. 11th...
