Thoughts on region K or W for Wyoming mule deer for this September bow season.

As the title suggests. Help and your opinions on whether it's worth hunting one of these 2 regions or am I better off hunting elsewhere? If so where? Thanks

Neither. I've got the honeyhole of all honeyholes in a different region and will be sure to send you the GPS coordinates when I have a chance.

Alpineman,
Just a heads up. Great group of guys on this forum but they prefer new members to introduce themselves first and tell a little bit about yourself. Too many guys come on the forum and start asking for info and never engage otherwise. If you go to New members page and tell everybody a little about yourself you will see what I'm talking about. They will then welcome you and also help steer you with questions you may have. I personally know nothing about WY as I have yet to hunt there. I am however building points and will hunt there soon. Good luck with everything and stick around. This is a great site and you will make some good friends if you hang out awhile.
Regards,
Matt

Thanks Matt I am by no means a newbee or a junior, I do see where you are coming from. Other forums of which I am a member welcome other members without having to introduce yourself that is a new one to me, but I will go ahead and do it now. I have accumulated preference points in Wyoming since it was introduced about 10 years ago. I have successfully hunted Wyoming for ELK, DEER, PRONGHORN and BEAR for over 20 years on 18 different trips. I have hunted many other states and countries. I don't live in the USA.

Welcome to Eastman's! I don't know a lot about Wyoming, but hunted it a handfull of times. But this is what I know, if you have max points I wouldn't use them on a general tag like k or w I think w has a couple limited quota areas, but nothing worth that many points I don't think. I think k has alot of private ground and w is a zoo from what I've heard. With that many I would go for the late season in f that is 105,106,and 109 I believe , but thats been hit and miss the last few years with the warm weather as late as it's been. And the late season in 128, you just never know with the weather dependent hunts, but the rut helps. Maybe 34 but that don't sound real great yet. The only general tag that is worth that many points is region g. H also but h only takes around 2 points. If you had private ground somewhere else might be an option. That's about all I know, someone else might chime in that would know more about some limited entry tags possibly.

Nice intro. Sounds like you've enjoyed some awesome hunts. Think you'll fit in just fine. Welcome.

I think you will find this forum different. Lots of guys build friendships, hunting partners......etc here and trade info. Most other forums have the same answers I can Google :)

Mnhoundman gives some sound advice there. Lots of points to be used on those tags that I don't think are worth it due to the lack of public land and pressure.

I will be hunting elk in unit 7 plan on arriving the last week in August, depending on what I find in the first week or so of September during opening week of the season (yep bow hunting, private ranch), I might stay there or go have a look around for a respectable mule deer whilst I wait for the elk to fire up if they didn't in that first week, or maybe they are already vocal in late September as I have found in the past. This is why I asked thoughts on K or W. I don't intend to use my points on these regions I will have them as second and third choice. I don't want anyone's secret spot described earlier as "honeyhole", all I wanted was opinion as to whether it was worthwhile driving down there or am I better off to stay over near unit 7 elk, deer region J? Thanks again.

Regions K and W can't be drawn without using points. Both areas were roughly a 20% draw last year as a first choice- 0% as a second choice. If you are wanting a second choice area, look at the regular draw odds for non-residents last year to see which areas had fewer first choice applicants than available permits. It's no guarantee it will stay the same but will give you a decent idea what can be had as a second choice.
