Went to Mammoth to ride the mountain bike. Been doing a lot of trail riding to get in shape for hunting season. Did a major 2000' ascent a several down hills and climbs. At the 15 mike mark a rock jumped in front of me and left me eating dust and gasping for air. Pretty sure I've broken some ribs or atleast severely bruised them. Had to ride out another 5 miles to get back to the rig. I can't even lift my bow let alone think about drawing it. $&@%#*€&$

I know how it feels. Except I go to the doctor the 4th of August so if I can get cleared to shoot I think I may try hunting this year.

You have 17 days until season starts I think so there is hope

I got to the Dr. Tomorrow to see what damage I've done. I've been icing and self medicating to ease the pain. Sleeping in a tent the night of the incident was rough but sure glad I hear my new BA sleeping pad. I'm almost certain opening day and the week after a re a bust. We shall see

Keep a positive attitude and you'll be back sooner than you think. I thought for sure breaking my collarbone June 30th would kill my season. After getting cleared 10 days later to use my arm and not lift over 5lbs, Im banking on that I'll be good to go on the second checkup. I picked the bow up today and can hold it and haven't lost too much muscle.

Ribs hurt but as long as they aren't at risk for puncturing a lung and you can muscle through some pain I think you'll hunt. If not get a doctors note and turn your tag in to get a refund and your points back.

Look at ole Jethro last year-he found a way!Hope it is better for your hunt.Did you draw a cow elk this year?
No cow tag this year. Put my money on my for sure archery deer tag and running a ton of bears. No bear tags yet and now this for my deer. We will see. Last year my back was trashed and didn't feel good until I hunted hard and worked it. I've got 3 weeks to see what happens but I broke ribs before racing MX, this is right there with the worst. So far lots of alcohol has number the pain but isn't fixing it!!!

That sucks! I just updated my thread related to my injury and upcoming elk hunt. That is a sick feeling when it happens and while you're lying there you know your plans have been changed!
Here's hoping for a quick recovery!

Are you allowed with a doctors note use a cross bow or get your money back on the tag?
I can't believe you don't have tags to run- are they crazy not to run with you and Austins dogs!
I will take some pictures of the European mount and belt buckle soon and try to get guys fired up.

If he sends his tag in 1 business day before season opens and then brings a doctors note with the tag or sends one to ndow later he will get all his points back and a tag refund

Hope you heal fast. I've had two injuries almost cancel hunts. One a bad muscle tear, the other involved a cracked bone, dislocation, and tear. In both cases I was shocked at how fast things healed. Ask for extra PT visits if it is an injury that will respond to it, the advances in PT are quite impressive vs what I had to go through 25-30 years ago.

I had a doctor tell me alcohol slowed bone healing, after a badly broken collar bone from a dirt bike wreck. I was in bad pain and in college, he said no beer if you want out of this body brace fast. No idea if true or not, but the pain was real bad and some of my self medication was blamed for the slower than expected healing.

I was just listening to a podcast on staying in shape. Couple of them rode mountain bikes another dirt bikes and they all said they give up anything that could jeopardize a hunt when you get to about 8 weeks out. Hearing all these horror stories here I might take their advice.

So the Doc says a small fracture but the bruising is the problem. 3 weeks he estimated to be good to go so my plans will change but hunting is still in the cards.

One thing on ribs is to not push it. If you have a very low poundage bow try it before you use your hunting setup. And if you feel any type of pain stop. Or you will be down even longer.

Of all the places on a body to hurt I personally think that the ribs are the worse. I have had broken, bruised, and separated ones and none of them were fun for quite a while.

Good luck on the hunt if you get to go out.

If you decide to try the low poundage bow and don't have one PM me I've got a bowtech admiral that goes to 40 -50 lbs that was my late wife you could barrow

I've drawn my sons bow back (20#) maybe. I can do it with no pain at all. He has another bow with more draw weight that I haven't tried yet. I'm hoping to be able to hunt some long weekends at least.

Agreed, I'm even more conservative though, especially as I'm in my 50's
