That there is no way you could survive without!

For me it's a shelter. If I forgot some form or fashion of tarp, tipi, tent, etc. I would be working on an alternative...

I can survive without a lot of things, for instance...sleeping pad. This may have happened to me once and I put my rain gear underneath me to prevent moisture from coming up and slept on...my backpack with the stays pulled out. Thank goodness it was only an overnighter...

Back pack would be my number one.

Can't survive without maybe not. In a survival stand point it would be a layering clothing system.

A medium sized to large knife, in my case I have a Becker BK 9 that's perfect for my needs. I keep it in my pack or on a belt if I'm not using the pack for the day. It's used for preparing my ground blind (cutting tree limbs and such) or to clear a path through ground cover and blowdowns. It's also a great tool for skinning an elk really quickly.

Hunting here in Nebraska, I'm never more than a few miles from my truck. But in the Sandhills it's easy to get lost. My Garmin Rino is that one piece of gear I never leave the truck without.

I'm torn between tent and headlamp. I don't bring a handheld flashlight, so forgetting a headlamp would be a pretty crappy deal. Tough to eat at night and would minimize how much you could hike during the dark to maximize hunting. Could survive without it, but it sure would suck! Shelter is a biggie as well.

Navigation, wether GPS or map/compass. I use GPS now but used to be maps. It’s tough for me to hunt when I’m worried about getting lost, especially when I have my daughters with me! I hunt timber a lot so I rarely have landmarks to look at.

1998 Yamaha griz.. 660cc of oil cooled madness is sitting right there ;) ...

I use that thing so much to get to where I need to go and literally would not hunt without one - but might be time for a upgrade one of these years. 4x4 jeeps/cars take too long and a dirt bike alone in the dark with a full pack n bow is just too much of a risk so I stick with the old grizz most days.

This is a tough one. A good quality knife with sharpener would have to be up there real high. One that's not meant for field dressing. How ever, I consider a list that is put to use and followed while loading backpack, a vital live of gear. Make a list and use it.

A backpack is a given since you wouldn't be hiked in without one in the first place. I'd say a knife or a jacket that keeps me warm and dry.

If you don't have a knife to clean an animal you have to hike out and get one. But a jacket is more of a survival need.
