Terrain info on Unit #47

what can you all tell me about the Wilderness area east of Aspen in unit 47
it looks to be OTC if i am reading the map right.
just looking for some ideas on what the terrain is like

my Girlfriend and i are thinking of coming out in either April of this year to maybe shed hunt and hike some and backpack camp and doing some fly fishing outside of Basalt. but thought about maybe checking out the Wilderness area east of Aspen.

im plannin on doing my first Back country hunt in 2018 and am trying to research some units but its hard to tell what the area is like

A lot of it is straight up and straight down.

April is mud season up here. There is very few areas to get off of the beaten path to hike or camp. There will still be lots of snow on the ground that closes roads and trails and I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of the area east of Aspen will have more snow than Aspen will have at that time.

I've been in Holy Cross in June and in some places snow was deep enough I lost the trail.

That wouldn't be a good shed hunting area. Like the Sangre De Christos.....long winter and a short summer up there.

What Slugs says on sheds, also the shed hunters would already of been out looking in the better places as soon as they can get through the mud.
