I just bought the Swarovski slc 10x42 ($1799) yesterday. I like them alot, but have not got them in the field yet. I can get the Vortex razor 10x42 at a discount price with vortex's law enforcement discount. The razors would be $729+$10 for shipping. Are the Razors to good of a deal to pass up? Are the swaros that much better? I would appreciate everybody's thoughts. Thanks

can't speak to the vortex but I have owned a pair of slc swarov 10x50 for 25 plus years with zero problems save haveing to replace the eyecups twice which swarov did no charge ,no ?s both times. swarov customer service is a+. I for one will not by binos from any other company again. I know A THOUSAND DOLLAR DIFFERENCE IS A LOT but you simply cannot go wrong with swarovski.

Just my 2 sense....... I had all the major European brands in my hands while doing research.......I couldn't tell the difference between Swaros, Zeiss or Leica........they all were awesome..........I then had a look at all the mid range binos and it was noticeable as the edges were not as clear in all light conditions. I don't think you can beat the high end glass. I think it all depends also how many hours a year you are using them........regardless I think the old adage of spend as much as you can afford on glass still holds true.

I have zeiss RF binos...If i had to do it over again...Id go Vortex Razor binos and spotter for the same price, if not less, as the zeiss were...I used to make a living looking through those binos so it was a good buy and I got a great deal with my guide license...but in the shoes of a DIY hunter, I think the vortex Razor are a top notch optic that $1000 does not justify how much you will be using them. You can get an awesome combo for that price and be much more versatile in your optics. . But if you are set on the Swaro's, you wont regret them either!

I've owned a pair of Swaro slc 10 X 42 binos for the past 10 years. I would not trade them for anything. Beside the boots on my feet, I use my binos more than any other piece of gear. Are they worth the extra $$ vs Vortex? That is something that you will have to answer for yourself. In my opinion, YES, but this is just my opinion. Sort of a "good glass" vs "great glass".

Thanks for the comments. This is a big upgrade time for me. I ordered a vortex viper hd 20-60×80 spotter and vortex diamond back hp 4-16×42 scope. The scope is going on my tc venture 3006 that is getting custom cerakoted. I'm going to have a fun year here in oregon and alaska next year for caribou.
I'm going to stay with the Swarovski's. Thanks guys and good luck this year!

Keep the swaros...you'll never regret it. Hunting out west in multiple states they will be your most used tool to make you consistently successful.

I have Swaro 15x56 SLC's and have been very happy with them. The Vortex eyecups on binos or spotters were never as good for me as the Swaro or Leicas, they left me wishing I could extend them a bit further. Vortex is a great company and I have several of their scopes, but I have been very pleased with my Swaros and wouldn't change.

I'm a budget guy… Vortex optics meet my budget. If I was a millionaire I might consider buying optics that cost three times as much… I seem to kill a lot of stuff for having cheap optics. Being a good hunter is more important than having terrific optics. Many animals have died with you guys using Tasco scope's…That's just my two cents though…

I bought my third pair of Swarovski binos this winter, one set of SLC and now two sets of ELs. By far the best glass in their class, in my opinion. I don't regret the purchase ever. Lots of time behind binos, not so much time behind the gun. Hunt smart, not harder. I can cover more ground , and better with good glass, than any 20 something running up and down draws and moutains. Use your brain, thats why God put bit there.

I looked at both before opting for the Razors. My eyes might be bad, but I didn't think there was that much difference in glass quality justify the price difference. Plus Vortex's warranty is amazing. Another really amazing newer brand is Maven out of Lander Wy. They even have a demo program.
