Leaving Monday morning for Colorado archery elk. Driving from Pennsylvania, does anyone know of any stores along interstate 70 that sale wilderness athlete or mountain ops? Looking for an altitude supplement or pills to help with the elevation.

There is nothing that will help with the elevation except for time.

You can pick up a bottle of aspirin in case you start to come down with altitude sickness along with a lot of water.

Do a search on altitude sickness and follow the recommendations.

There is not a thing to be done about altitude other than letting your body adjust slowly to it. Fixing altitude sickness is to only come down from high elevations.... Hydrate hydrate hydrate..

As stated you need to be hydrating a few days before you get here. The air is so dry you need more water than normal. Also, sunscreen, lip balm and good cardio are the others you will need.

The best ways to combat altitude sickness are time to adjust and to stay hydrated. I have also seen folks with mild altitude sickness not want to eat which is another big mistake. Lastly if you like beer or another alcohol beverages stay clear of them until you are full acclimated to the altitude your going to hunt. Good luck.

Altitude advantage by WA doesn't cure altitude sickness by I think it helps performance wise at altitude. I use it and it helps since I live at 200 ft.

Although hydrating, stepping up to altitude, eating red meat 48 hours prior to the climb( increase red blood cells) and most importantly, training will prevent 95% of all cases of altitude sickness......the elimination of one of the above will significantly increase the chances of getting it. Diamox though will trick the body into thinking it has excess CO2 and excrete it, which causes you to breath quicker in turn more oxygen in your system. Common drug used world wide for acclimatization, and treating acute altitude sickness.

REI in Denver is just south of I70 and may have something. Many bigger pharmacies like Walgreens will have electrolyte drinks or powders.

As well as what the above had said; fresh beets, helps with red blood cell production and oxygen carrying capacity. Bikers n long distance runners use this.

Lot of people swear by the wilderness athlete Altitude Advantage. I researched some of the ingredients and found out Gingko Biloba is one of the ingredients used to increase blood flow and some say helps with altitude sickness. I started taking it and only drinking water about a month ago and will keep doing that till I head out.
Like the others have stated pre hydration is as big of a key as anything. Must drink tons of water. I rarely if ever have had bad symptoms but I still always play "prevent defense" just in case. I live at 600 ft elevation and usually hunt as high as 12,000+. Good luck and just be careful. Recognize it if it sets in.

There is an REI a couple miles south at I80 / I35 ON the west side of DesMoines, Iowa. It is only about 10 minutes off I80. Not sure what time you'll be passing through.

The REI in Atlanta does not carry Wilderness Athlete or much else as far as supplements go.

I live at 11 ft literally and I have used altitude advantage the past two years when going to elevation. It has worked for me. I'm pretty confident it's not A placebo effect.
