Struggling in D-6

I am new to hunting deer and desperately need some help. I am a local resident in d-6 and time is winding down to procure meat for my tag. I have had zero luck on my own property and i want to venture out but feel the daunting lack of knowledge in hunting in combination with a lack of knowing the area is leaving me stuck. My life is currently dictated by dealing with newborn twins and two other children to boot reducing my time to hunt greatly. Is there anyone out there who is interested in mentoring an aspiring hunter in D-6. I am not looking for a trophy, purely meat for the freezer. Time is ticking and my stretch of land is not proving productive. If there is anyone out there looking to get out or likes to teach a guy in his 30s the ropes, please let me know. Thanks.

The road poaching seems to be picking up as the season winds down. I just followed a guy for a bit who was driving extremely slow scanning the hills. I am new to hunting so maybe it is just naivety but I was under the impression that part of the fun was hunting. It feels like driving around searching other peoples properties and taking the risk of trespassing and poaching for 60lbs of meat seems a bit not worth it. I would appreciate any advice you have on how to legally procure a buck before the season is up. Thanks.

I personally would hunt the burn as close to the park as possible. Any burnt ridge line or creek drainage leaving the park should have plenty of deer. Find an area that is as roadless as you can find. A mile off of a road is a great place to start

I have hunted D6 for over forty years and if you review the success rates you will note they are not very high. That being said, after last week's storm the deer will normally start to gather and move some towards lower elevations. As B&C Blacktails noted walk in from some of the trailheads or ridges 1/2 to 1 mile off of the roads.
As a side note you will see lots of road hunters from now till the season ends. In my opinion I think they give hunters a bad name. The worst example I saw was during archery season when a pickup came by with two guys sitting in lawn chairs in the bed with their bows in their laps and arrows in hand. At least they were in full camo, lol.

Lol...chiefgobbler you sure you weren't in GA. Too funny that sounds like the rednecks around here. Gun season opens Saturday and I plan to be nowhere near them.
