As I get older and due to requests from kids and grandkids I have decided to try and document some of my most memorable hunts and trips over the years. As I was putting together stories and pictures I recalled one true story that I thought the group would enjoy.
A friend and I were hunting in region G and staying in Cokeville Wyoming many years ago. One night after we had killed our Deer we had dinner and went into the Red Dog Saloon for an after dinner cocktail. That night there were a group of guys from Pittsburgh and 3 gals from Rock Springs who had been hunting on their own and killed their first deer. It was easy to tell they had been camping for a few days. They were wearing dirty jeans with the old style white long johns. Of course the long johns were covered in blood from cleaning their deer. Now these were tough gals who worked in a Trona mine. Needless to say they had been celebrating maybe a little too hard. Some of you may remember the old beer commercials when someone would smash an empty can of beer on their forehead. A couple of the gals sitting at the bar proceeded to crush cans on their foreheads. Very impressively I might add. Now the good ole boys from Pittsburg had brought their own "Steel City" beer and dared the third gal to crush one of those cans one her forehead. She drank the beer, sat up tall on the bar stool and proceeded to crush the can. The next thing you see is her falling off of the bar stool, hitting the floor with blood oozing from a half moon scar on her forehead. She didn't know that Pittsburgh was known as the Steel City and Steel City beer only came in steel cans in those days not aluminum.
