When do they normally shed their velvet in your location? They are usually hard horn 1st-3rd week of October here. Just curious because those deer seem to be pretty big already compared to what I would see here.

They're usually all hard horn by early Sept. Sometimes earlier if we get some and a cool snap. I was watching mature bucks chase does the last weekend of Sept when bow season opened last year. Typical rut runs from anywhere from mid Oct- Thanksgiving. Had deer still with headgear in late March.

He should eventually have 3 on each and g2 kickers. I'm at least going to lay off that one for 2 more years.

Yeah we have some with antlers still in early May. Our rut here in SE Alabama is in January and February so I guess that's the difference. Also a 130" deer here is a monster. You've probably got 130 inchers behind every tree and bush! Some nice looking bucks!

I usually have a handful of 130" deer every year. A lot that have the potential to be that but as they get older and tighten down their range I quit getting as many pictures of them. I'd imagine we're pretty similar to SE Alabama b/c of available browse.
