stainless steel barrel VS blue blue barrel

Just wanted to know if anyone had any stores on hunting with a stainless steel barreled gun .(spooking game ) or things of the such. I am looking at a savage weather warrior and wanted to know if the stainless steel barrel was any brighter or any more reflective than a reg. blue barrel ??????? thanks

I have a stainless steel barreled weatherby, it's not shiny like chrome but it dose have a matt silver finish. I have never had game spooked because of it. I have hunted with this gun in a three day thunderstorm and with the gun getting rained on, no rust. My buddy hunted on the same trip with a blued gun and had lots of rust starting. I will always go stainless because of the elements I hunt in.

I too have a stainless barreled .300 Wby. Barrel is matte finish, no problem whatsoever.Mine is a Shilen match grade.

Interesting that the concern is the outside finish and reflectivity. Many years ago when stainless barrels were first being tried, everyone was interested in how well they would last and shoot. There are many, many (probably 100's) stainless alloys and most are great for the application they were designed for. In the marine industry lots of people thought any stainless alloy would work....wrong! I have a pair of stainless Ruger Vaqueros that I use for Cowboy Action shooting. I have shot thousands of blackpowder rounds thru them (over 10,000 per year!) in competition and practice without a single gun problem. Durable, good looking and they shoot!

My 3 main rifles I hunt with are all stainless. I'd take stainless any day just because of the rain/wet problem and with a synthetic stock, not much to worry about. I bead blasted the barreled action on my Rem Mod. 700 300 RUM when I first got it to see if it would take a little shine off it. It did. The stainless actually get duller with oiling and age or something. I don't scrub it. My Ruger M77 (brushed Stainless ?) and TC Hunter both were more dull to begin with. The TC actually almost grey. Go stainless !

I have stainless on all of my customs and they are all cerakoted. That stuff is bullet proof. You won't ever have to mess with it again. If you want to go the cheap route you can always buy a $5.00 can of Krylon and paint it yourself.

I bought the weather warrior last fall and put a Leupold VX3 on it, it's absolutely awesome!, I have other rifles I like too but this gun really surprised me for the price. Once I found the right bullet (off the shelf) t use with it, it is the most accurate gun I own, and is simply a pleasure to hunt with. The stainless barrel is much easier to take care of and is the only way to go.
