Very cool pics! My Step son went out opening day with no luck either. They are in spring work now so I'm not sure if they tried again.

My hunting partner and I ventured into enemy territory (kansas) on saturday, and got into the birds pretty good. We had a spot that had been holding close to 100 birds, with over 30 of them being strutters. We had the pleasure of watching all of them pitch down all around us and strut and carry on for about a half an hour or so. As they started to leave, a group of gobblers committed to us. With 15-20 hens all within 20 yards, drawing was kind of dicey. After letting Drew get drawn, I drew right as Drew shot, missing. I lined up on a bird that was still in strut, and knocked him down. The birds started to scatter, but then saw their fallen comrade. 10 or so toms ran back, strutting around him and pecking at him, so I knocked another arrow, and killed another. We ran out to make sure they were down for good, as the day before, I called a bird in to 18 yards, stuck him right below the waddles, watched him drop and stay down for over a minute, only to then see him jump up and run off. I was never able to find him.

We took off to another farm to see if anything was in the area. After seeing a strutter in a field over a half mile away, we set up a decoy when he went back into the timber. I called to him, and within 2 minutes, he and 8 of his buddies were racing in. I saw them at 40 yards, closing fast. I told my partner to draw, as they were RIGHT THERE! By the time he was drawn, they were coming into his view, at about 7-8 yards. Less than 5 minutes after seeing this bird over a half mile away, Drew was packing him out on his shoulder.

Ha, just realized this was in the CA forum. Kansas, California.. Turkeys are all the same no matter what state they come from, right?

Limited out in Mississippi this week. I'll be helping other hunters the rest of the season. Just like to be out there in it.
