I'm looking into a backpacking 5 day Idaho spring bear hunt. I've read half a dozen bear books, listen to podcasts, and read all the forums and magazine articles. How does one narrow that down to a unit to hunt? Seems over whelming haha. I'll be driving from out of state and want to park my vehicle and hike in. Any suggestions?

Look on the Game & Fish site for the harvest report to see what the boar harvest totals are for each unit. Then click on the unit number link to look the unit map. If you want to do a limited tags hunt, look at the draw report, Otherwise, they have general hunts for bear.

You can also call HQ and ask for contact info for the bear biologist or a local biologist.

I'd like to do a spring bear hunt sometime too. Since Colorado doesn't have a season, I've never done it. Would be nice to go with someone who has some experience hunting them in the spring. Good luck on your hunt! Will be interested to see how it goes...

Thanks hoshour. Yeah CoHiCntry. I'm researching bear hunting like crazy. Hoping to narrow down a spot I can hike into for a few days and spot and stalk black bears.
