According to an outfitter I spoke with during the fall season, the 1st two weeks of June are best. Of course that is snow dependent. This year has been, so far, more than average in most of the state.
I would do a DIY with bait. Units 10 & 12 are good with reduced NR tags and 2 bears. There's a reason for that. This was the 1st bear season for me, we saw quite a few bears. Spot & stalk can be hard in good bear areas because of the thick forest in good areas. Hard to see the forest through the trees!
The outfitters in the area I hunted used to have a lot of elk and deer hunters to guide in the fall, but with the high predation from bears & wolves, almost all of their clients bear hunt now because of the lack of game, at least in the areas hard hit by wolves.
