Posted similar thread in Mule Deer forum.

I hunt Sandhills of Nebraska and looking for a spotting scope or high powered binoculars.

It's public and I will be walking in, so weight is a concern.

I've got Cabela's Outfitter Series 8x42 binoculars and Leica CRF 800 Rangefinder already.

Thoughts on spotting scope vs. high powered binocular? Pros and cons?

I"m hunting here:

Thanks, D.

I read your other post also, this might help. I reviewed both an ED50 that was the top end 50mm before the Vortex, might still be haven't seen the Vortex, and 15x binos. The replies you got on the other thread are good. Basically I'd prefer the 15x binos for finding game over any spotter inside a mile. The spotter is better if you want to really judge that animal and not just see it's antler frame. Both definitely have their place. Which fits you better depends on how worried you are about broken points, field scoring animals, trophy hunting, etc. I got by pretty good with the ED50 and good 10x binos before getting the other optics but there are definitely trade-offs with either. The 15x binos are way easier to look through for long sessions for me without eyestrain and way better in low light. If you choose the spotter and will only own one I'd go 65mm and get a good tripod you can use either the spotter or your current binos from.

Whatever you choose I'd buy a very good version of it. Put your optics together over time as the budget allows and buy good ones.

Here is my review of what I've put together over time.
