Speaking of packs, do you drop camp or re-pack everyday?

I'm debating which way to go.

On the one hand, it would be nice to have a camp set up and waiting when you get back, with the added bonus of not having to carry it around all day.

On the other hand, if you drop camp, you have to go back to get it. So if you're out during the day and decide you want to head somehwere else... Depending on how far out you got when you decided to move, it could take you a half day to get to it, pack and get back to where you were.

I will drop camp if I am in the elk and leave it there the whole time.

If the elk aren't close, I'll break camp after the morning hunt and put it on my back for the evening hunt. I've also spiked out above some bedded elk that were coming out to feed in a high meadow at first light.

I'm with DFG, if I am in animals I leave camp. When I am not seeing the bucks or bulls I like I move on.

I have not. I do hunt pretty far off of trails and I definitely make sure my camp is semi hidden. Never leave your camp right off of a heavily used trail. Most people in the back country including the granola group are good people but there is always a potential thieving scum bag lurking!

When i hunted my mountain goat, I was set up next to an old miners cabin and had some of my things in the cabin, mostly cooking gear and food. When I packed the hide out (I had it lifesized ), I passed several groups of hikers that gave me a very odd look. When I got back to my camp that night, alot of my stuff was missing and my tent was knocked over. It is a good thing that I took my rifle and binoculars with me when I packed the goat out or I would probably been without them now. What a bunch of pricks, whoever you are !!!!!

BKC-that's the stuff I'm worried about if I leave camp. I won't go very far without it.

That's pretty gutsy going through somebody's camp...especially a hunter's camp knowing he is out there hunting with a weapon and may be coming back anytime.
