Yeah that looked like a great herd and like others have mentioned hopefully they can figure these outbreaks out. Coming from a farming background, I thought they would be able to figure something out. I know for the most part supplemental feeding isn't the answer to wildlife, but in cases like this maybe it would be worth a try. I know they have medicated feed that we used with calves where if you were able to feed it soon enough to them, it prevented the need to use medication by needle. But that's farm animals not wild ones.

Well I just got some more info on this subject from my good friend. This has been going on for a couple years.

We had an outbreak of pneumonia in the Mojave desert here in California last year. It nearly wiped out the Kelso Old Dads herd. It has since spread to a few other herds and resulted in a 40 percent drop in tags this year. The more contact these sheep have with livestock, the greater the chance of disease being spread.
