Hello everyone. I found this forum while researching hunting out west. My wife and I are new to big game hunting. We have plenty of skill and determination, and are focused on traveling to hunt deer. We have tried antelope hunting a couple times without killing anything, not for lack of opportunity, and now want to try our hand at deer.
We traveled to Wyoming last summer and have settled on the Buffalo area due to its distance and availability of public land. One preference point should guarantee us tags for next fall, and we will make a trip out there this summer to look over some specific areas. Big on planning due to busy lives, so that part is already underway.
Excited to find such a great resource and hoping to be able to share some success.

I hunted antelope in Buffalo the first week of October this year. We were in unit 16 and it was my buddies second year hunting there. We liked that area cause there was some decent public land to hunt and it wasn't to far from town. We talked to a lot of people that said the numbers were way down for antelope and deer. We covered a lot of ground and only saw 5 or 6 muley bucks and they were all pretty small. We found one nice shed though. Hope it helps.

Thanks everybody! Opening weekend for West River deer here in South Dakota. No tags for us.

Coworker is in Harding County waiting for the sun to rise. Lucky.

Welcome!!

Waiting on my NR West river deer tag. Probably 2 more years till I draw. Used to be able to buy that tag leftover

Hope your friend had a good weekend. My first deer ever was in Northern Butte Co. 37 years ago. I love hunting that area.

My coworker isn't back yet so I don't know how he is doing, but I saw a picture of three friends who killed four mule deer with leftover tags north of the Black Hills last weekend. One of them a really nice 3X3. Gonna have to pay attention to that leftover list I guess.
