Does not say, but I'd guess a Sierra Matchking? Great ballistics, but I have zero experience with that bullet, but know some guys use them for hunting. But if my guess is right, I'd vet that choice with reliable hunting field reports or find a bullet designed for hunting, before using it on anything much larger than deer. Hopefully a member or two on the forum has experience with that bullet on game, I don't. Or did the gunsmith say it's OK for hunting based on their experience, not just for punching holes in paper. Not trying to create doubt, but I'd want to know what bullet they are using to establish comfort before hunting with it.

I would agree with Tim, I've had very good experience with Berger VLD and Accubonds, both standard and LR. Good terminal effective expansion, very good accuracy. Not so impressed with gamekings on animals, I don't think they are very strong, Iv'e seen them fragment pretty badly. With the right load and more experience with that beautiful gun I would expect those groups to shrink by at least 50%.

I have been using Sierra Game Kings for 50 years, it's an awesome bullet. I use them in my 25-06 and 30-06. Now for my .300 Wby I use nothing but Nosler Partitions.

Not saying they don't get the job done, I just haven't had the best experience with them. Myself, I use the Berger VLD 140 gr for a 6.5 Weatherby, 200 gr Accubond for 300 RUM and Win Mag, Partition for 338 and 375, and Swift A-Frame for 416 Rem.

Just remember that for hunting you don't need a load that will shoot sub moa accuracy to kill a animal. It is fun however to put 5 shots into a ragged hole when you are practicing. Every now and then you will run across a hunting load that will shoot sub moa with a hunting bullet, and if you do then there is no further need to change until the bullet manufacture discontinues your favorite bullet.

I have 3 rifles that will shoot sub moa with my hunting load shooting Barnes bullets and am working on the 4th.

Other than that I have a rifle that I haven't been able to find a load that it likes to shoot a group smaller than 1 1/2" at 100 yards. But that rifle has killed more deer and elk than the rest of my rifles combined ever will.

I don't believe they make a 190 gr. Gameking in .308, which is why I suspect the load in question is a Matchking. I'd be a checking...if it happens to be a Gameking, you have a bullet purpose built for hunting, if a Matchking that would not be the case, but it may or may not work. Sorry I can't help more than that as I lack the field experience to comment on a Matchkings suitability for hunting.

I originally bought him a model 700 left handed 270 that he shot well, but not like this. I questioned him about the cost of the gun and he came back with, dad I'll be 32 I have many many years of hunting ahead of me and with this gun I won't need another! :) is from me with his thinking! Buy quality not quantity. He's happy I'm happy. These projectiles are Not match kings, they are match hollow point boat tails.

Holy crap that's one ugly rifle! You better just send it my way for product evaluation. That's a great choice in calibers for everything near to far, big to small.

Are you guys reloading? Nosler and Federal both make some fine rounds with 180 grain Partitions and Accubonds that I think would really work well for everything he wanted to hunt with that beast. As you can tell I'm very partial to NOSLER. They have never let me down and they shoot very well.

I just breath taking to look at. We're not reloading yet. We shot this morning and just finished his first 20 rounds thru it! I am shooting 165 grain nosler accubonds thru my new bolt 06. I like the way the shoot! Very impressed!

I'd say he was brought up right.

We shot again today, his first 20 rounds have been put thru the beast. I shot my RMEF bolt 30-06 with nosler 165 accubonds! Very happy with my $40 gun + $499 for the leupold 4.5x14 vx3i. Very impressed with the setup!
