We hunted in Iowa first shotgun season. We hiked in 7/8 of a mile after crossing two creeks. Weather was -2F winds 5-10 MPH which made for a cold morning on the stand. We both saw some smaller bucks & 30+ does & had our deer shot by 9:00am then the work dragging them out. image.jpg

Congratulations to you and your son! It is truly a special moment, an experience that you will never forget. I recall when my son shot his first deer, a spike horn in the upper peninsula. I think I was more excited that he was? Keep up the good work with your son, sharing moments with family are priceless, and build a bond that will last forever. Congratulations once again!

Yes it was cold Kevin. After that lousy trip to ID I had to do some more big game hunting. Kevin think about if you would like to hunt Whitetail Deer in Iowa, season is always first Saturday in December & only open to Wednesday just 5 Days. Trevor's buck was bigger than mine. This was only a 45 minute drive from my house. I do have better place to try where there are bigger deer but we would have to stay in motel. Take Care Kevin. Iowa is shotguns only or muzzleloader. image.jpg

Thanks for all the Congratulations. I did not realize how lucky we were. Since our hunt & talking with other people, I have since heard there was Blue Tongue & farmers were finding dead deer this last summer, and just a few miles from where we hunted a farmer had 75 dead deer on his farm. I can't wait to see what the Iowa DNR has to say about the season & when they do there flyover counts this winter as to what the population is.

Congrats on your great hunt. That first buck is always a great memory and will last a life time. Spending time in the woods with family is so important to preserving our hunting heritage. Congrats again on a great hunt
