there are some awesome youth hunts, but this is a general open hunt for anyone. I don't mind sharing that, I never hunt it unless I decide to buy an extra NR tag and shoot a cow in Dec.

I'm in a dilemma, there are three bulls that all score over 350 that have been coming off of a field a few miles in, still a few weeks of growing season!!!! ive been debating on turning in my archery tag for this one. my brother will be in there with his son along with me and mine, they are going to go after a group that are hitting another field. it is very likely that we would all harvest out opening morning. my dilemma is I would love to shoot one of the brutes, but then I would be done and I'm very much looking forward to hunting with a bow in September. what would you do??? I could pic up an extra tag for $299 discounted from the $416 price for extra NR tags. hmmmmm. Not to mention temps are hitting the 90's and it would be a fast breaking down job to get to butcher, its just way to hot to butcher an elk my self.

Nope son, "give me that gun"! Haha. Now that's a dilemma I wouldn't mind having. Here's what you should do. Go stroke a 350" bull and then I'll buy the NR archery tag and you can scout/hunt with me and maybe then you'll have had the perfect year. You will have guided your son, yourself and me all to 350" bulls. Now that's a plan!;);)

haha come on down! its not much of a hunt though, you know what I mean? it doesn't even get hunted hard because of the hot aug temps. it'll get hit pretty decent the fist few days, then they cross hwy into closed unit and only cross at night after first few days. I just got mowing a few yards and I'm already sweating my tater sacks off! breaking elk down in this just doesn't sound like much fun

Heck yea Ivory. Either way we could hunt first then hit the Henry's Fork of the Snake for some fly fishing or something. Float Box Canyon or the South Fork of the Snake. You live in or near God's Country. There is plenty to do near you. Then after that we'll drive up and float the Madison. It's that time of year...terrestrials! Guarantee we will wear something out. Just one thing, you can't bring out the phantom bee pattern or tell Pete. He gets jealous. Lol.

big changes in plans, sons leaving to twin falls for a week, he wont be here for the opener. wife made him go....... ugh. anyway, I did something I thought id never do, I gave up my diamond creek elk tag this morn(someone will be very happy when they see there is 1 available!) I haven't hunted with my brother in a long time and thought it would be fun to hunt along side him for a change so I bought that other tag. I put the bow away and pulled the ole .270 out to see if the range and it still have an agreement amongst each other, they do! the last time I shot at an elk with that thing I made a big mistake and watched the bull of my life runaway. I believe it is time to even the score. hopefully ill have some pics on here next week, will probably be of an ugly rag horn or a plump cow:) ill take what I can get towards end of week if a big bull doesn't mess up and align himself with ole Betsy early on. get it done and start prepping for deer! and yes, much better than mowing! I told the hospital id be gone all week next week and not to call.

Those Diamond Creek tags went fast. Glad I got one sitting in my wallet! Just shoo one of those 350 bulls down to that canyon I hunt.
Appreciate it!

holly crap its hot! sunday night we watched over 100 elk drop off the hills from closed unit and funnel into the hay fields, just as expected. slept in truck bed, was woke up about 2am by several big hay cutters. hahaha I couldn't do anything but laugh, talk about great timing!! plan B, well there was no plan B. we cruised out on the big open desert and glassed, found several large groups of lopes and did find elk but couldn't find any size. seen a bunch of cows and young bulls this morning. gonna try a diff spot close to home tomorrow then go hit the plan A spot in a week.
