I got my bow out the other day to wax the string. I decided to shoot it a little. My son wanted to try and shoot it. It is set at 70 pounds and he could not break it over. I said want to try my old Jennings bow. It is set at about 63 pounds. He was able to shoot it. and was stacking in tight groups at 20 yards. He has been practicing quite a bit. So I take him out for his second time Saturday morning. I am set up about 60 yards from him. We are bot in climbers. About 9:00 am I am nodding off in the stand. I hear what I think is something falling and a thud. Then I see a deer busting out of there. I heard what I thought was the deer trashing around on the ground just out of sight. I told him to stay in the stand for at least 30 minutes. At 30 Minute I got down and told him to direct me to where the deer was when he shot it. I was shocked when I saw it was about 45 yards. I did not see the arrow but found blood just a couple feet away. I told him to get down. I had him follow the blood trail. After about 10 yards he found the arrow. I showed him how to examine the arrow. It had good bright red blood and the blood was on the fletchings and knock. I explained that is a pass through. Trailed good blood another 40 yards and found the deer piled up. Was real proud for him. Took me way more than two sits to get my first bow kill. So he killed his first deer with the same bow his dad did over 25 years ago.

Congratulation's to the young hunter on his first archery buck. That's pretty cool that you and your son were able to use the same bow to get that first archery deer down.

Thats awesome congratulations. There was an article in i believe field and stream in the 90's . Anyway this guy ( have know idea what his name is / was) had killed almost 30 pope and young and a couple of booners with the old bear whitetail bow . He said he knew the bow and all it did was kill deer. Alot if times we get so wrapped up in the newest and greatest and we already have something to get it done . Sure a new bow would be faster and have two inches less of drop ( or more ) at 20 to 30 yards but who cares. Obviously it can still get it done. I bought a Mathews solocam when they were a new company in the 90s and killed a ton of critters with it . In the mid 2000s i bought the newest and greatest and hated it . I could never get it to shoot right and it was very unforgiving. Sold it and went back to the bow that just killed stuff. Anyway i wish i would have saved that magazine . With all the advertisements for all the new hunting equipment i always think of that article. I think it awesome you boy killed that with your old bow . Congratulations to the both of you
