I think that the Colorado Parks and Wildlife is going to be trying something new this up coming draw season.

I just got my turkey application guide and it appears that for one that they are going to do away with all paper applications. You application for the draw either needs to be done on a computer or you will need to call their office. I didn't notice if you will be able to go into a office to apply for a hunt but perhaps.

Another thing is that they are going to go to a post pay. You will need to use a credit card on the application and it will only be charged for the habitat stamp and application fee. Then if you draw your tag it will be charged again. So no more sending in checks and then having to wait for a refund a month after the draw.

This draw season might get interesting.

It's the very 1st thing at the top of the page on the 2017 brochure that for 2018 they are going to go paperless; looks like we will need to set up a password protected account with CPW to play.

Im OK with both especially the pay part but what makes me nervous is the comper system itself. CPW had issues in the past with their system crashing for left over tags. Hope this wont be the case but guess we will see.

Utah has been this way for quite a while.

They do have crashes and everyone has learned not to wait for the last hour of the last day to put in for the draw.

It will be interesting to see if they are handling it in house or if they are going to farm it out to a outside firm to handle things.

Wonder if there was any legal issues or anything with holding all that money for several weeks? I'm sure they get some complaints, but I have to think they probably didn't want to give up holding funds in some account for a month.

I'm betting a lot more people will start applying with no upfront tag fees

When Utah went from prepay to post pay there was a huge upswing in applications and at $10 a application it paid for the upgrade real fast. But it also added to the point creep

Johnsd:

If they get more people to apply they get more money even at only $3 a application. That along with saving money by not having to issue checks for all the refunds.

I've been discussing this with data/metrics contacts in other states and they all agree this will induce more point creep in the form of a jump greater than the normal yearly rates established now.

Oh boy more point creep, just what we needed! Better get the 12 year olds started now so by the time they are 50 they can draw a moose or sheep tag.
