I would send some locations bugles at night into some canyons if you're struggling to find elk. Cover the country. Like many general areas in Wyoming, success is in the 20% which means its good hunting. By the looks on google earth if you're willing to pack an elk up the mountain to the road you'll find some success!

The WY small game tag is a separate license. Eighty some $ for a non-resident. I usually get one when in WY on an antelope hunt, as the area we hunt is over-run with rabbits and they are a blast to hunt with a .22 pistol. The small game license is good for rabbits, mt. grouse, dusky grouse, but NOT for sage grouse. You can find all this info on the WY G&F website.
Doesn't the combined small game and game bird license cover it all?

Starting to second guess my choice of area as I've been looking on google earth and onx map I've been seeing a awful lot of camps. Maybe I'm just getting the jitters I am 2 weeks from leaving and over reacting.

Yea, don't worry about, I've killed elk with in a half mile of a huge camping area. Get to the mile mark, and start hunting, you'll get into them.

Sawtooth, elk hunting is challenging. No other way to put it. Don't second guess yourself- go hunt and learn. I've been elk hunting for 25 years and still learn more every year I go up. Make your trip about enjoying the experience and you will have a great time. 1 out of every 4 or 5 guys who go up shoot an elk... If those 3-4 guys who didn't fill judged success on a kill, they set themselves up for disappointment. If you work hard and have a little luck, you will likely get an opportunity. If you go in with the mindset to take time to enjoy the experience, you will have a great time no matter if you fill or not.
