Earlier this year before the bucks shed their antlers I got a TC picture of this old buck. He's kinda a freak and I like it. I'm hoping to get lucky this fall season, and get him on my wall.

Does anyone have an idea what he would score? and maybe the age?

Thats a cool looking buck, from the double patch on his neck I would guess it is a Blacktail. I agree with IKIC, somewhere in the area of 160ish

Based on his antler configuration (from what it looks like) his score will be much lower than most expect......but you're looking at a very mature (old) desert mule deer past his prime.

I agree if that is a black tail it would be in the 150's. Also it is very hard to GUESS a score with one pic. It also could be a hybrid witch can change it to. It's an old buck either way

That's what I was thinking too, "very mature, past his prime". He has probably even shrunk because of his age. I know he didn't live that long being stupid.....so it's going to be a challange this year. I'm going to try and arrow him first before the pressure of rifle season.

I've been told by fish and game that these are Mule deer in this area..... do blacktail live in the desert? I thought blacktail were more costal. This buck lives deep back in the mojave desert.

I think this buck had abnormal genes because he never got the typical 4x4 forks, but the split G1's are cool. It looks like he has some mass too.

Super cool looking buck! Very old too. Mojave would put him pure Muley. Score wise, who cares cause he's so cool lookin' but maybe 140 ish gross, 130 ish typical... I hope you get him, he's a trophy!

Here is a picture of a friend of mine and a buck he killed in 2011 in D17. He is pretty close to the vest on his spots and usually sees lots of bucks, but doesn't shoot many. Always looking for the "Big One".

Thats a nice buck your buddy took CC, hopefully one of these days I'll get drawn for Zone D17. I decided to hunt the San Gorgonio Wilderness in Zone D-14 with my second tag. Ive been busy working OT so I can purchase my backpacking gear!!

My Dad used to live in Imperial Valley and used to hunt the Chocolate Mts on the west side. There were (and are still) lots of nice bucks down there. He used used to go to several washes he khew and rake them every evening. Go back the next day looking for tracks of deer going to the freshwater to drink. When he found and area they were using, he would setup and wait. He shot several like these. Lots of years ago, but there are still lots of deer there.
