I need to take my wife on a vacation. And since I always get such good info from here, I thought I would ask you guys... Any tips on a good week long vacation in February or March? We live in Montana so naturally we want some sun. Probably some beach too.

Thanks in advance.

Depends on how much $$ you want to spend:cool: In February my wife and I will be spending 10 days in Belize. This will be our 3rd trip there. After spending at lot of time in Mexico (Baja, Cabo, etc) for the last 30 years, we find Belize to be a very cool place. We've also been to Costa Rica and Hawaii. We don't go to Mexico anymore because of the crime and political climate. Used to own a business there and a home, but not anymore. The only problem i see is deciding this late, might be a little hard to get all the itinary put together. Good luck and have fun...take plenty of sunscreen!

I need to do the same thing Montana. I don't think it will happen in 2013 however, but 2014 I NEED to take the wife somewhere! She puts up with alot from my hunting obsession. Anytime she talks about going somewhere tropical I ask "what is there to hunt there?" I need to stop doing that.

Go to carnival.com & look at the carribean cruises. They are awesome, you will eat like a king! Took my entire family last spring & we are going back next summer. Cozumel, Mont. Bay & Belize! If you go in Feb it will be one of the cheaper rates also. If you are interested, I can give you our vacation planners name & number she will take care you & your wife.

You can probably do San Pedro on Ambergris Cay in Belize for 4k, but airfare could get you. (We usually plan on about 5k and bring some home. Once you get there you can have a blast doing snorkeling and fishing with some great seafood too. Conch and lobster! We do a week there, staying at Mata Rocks Resort. It is small and on the water, a little south of town, nice place that treats you right. We rent a golf cart for a week to get around and see the sights. If you get there ask about the Chicken Walk. Lots of fun...a big checker board on the floor that all the squares are numbered. The turn loose a chicken to walk around. You pick squares (for a buck or 2) kind of like roulette. When the chicken takes a crap, the number that gets dumped on wins!! The more you drink the more fun it gets. We are going back this February and are going to look at condos.

I do our traveling in the winter, gets us out of the cold weather. Its payback to my great wife of 48 years for my hunting trips. I have a great time, so its almost like double dipping for me.

Montana,

We went out of Galveston, Texas. Living here in Ok, it is cheaper to drive down there & board the ship. I heard the Florida ports are cheaper cruises though. Our vacation planner with carnival is Naheed Maige. Her phone number is 800-819-3902 ext. 82563.
If you got any questions let me know. Good Luck!

I've been in the Virgin Islands 14 times and various Bahama out islands 6-7 times; I will never go back to the Bahamas the time of year you're talking about-too much chance of cold fronts going through. We hit the Virgin Islands in Feb or March and hold off 'til May for Bahamas.

Great Guys... Thanks. Eberle, I just about pulled the trigger yesterday. This seems to be by far the best value way of doing the trip. I watched some youtube videos though and it seemed kind of crazy with all the people. Was it nuts or not too bad? What time of the year did you go?

Colorado Cowboy.. Thanks... I think it's a tad over budget and time, by just a day or 2. With little staying home the lady says 6 days max away from the turds :)

BB and sheephunter... These are on the list too. Sheephunter. Do you have some recommendations? Did you have some favorite spots?

Thanks everyone!!

Montana,

It was not bad at all, we went the last week of April. You see everything from the young party crowd to elderly people (every walk of life). Their is alot of things to do, the size of the ship is amazing. We done the 5 day cruise to Progresso & Cozumel. The one I booked for this coming August is a 7 day. If you decide to go, make sure to do the shore excursions. My wife & I took the kids to swim with the dolphins & they loved it. A couple went with us that do not have children & they took a submarine tour. They were really impressed with it. There is shows everynight, comedy, magic & concerts ect. Of course there is a casino, shopping mall, arcade & bars all over the ship! We are not the gambling or drinking type & it didn't bother us. No one was disrespectful or out of line in any way. My wife & I did go to carryokie (however you spell that) bar. We laughed until we cried, not at just the singing. The dancing was pretty comical! The food is awesome, I'm still not sure how they can cook for that many people & it still be that good. If you got anymore questions let me know, good luck!

Montana,
Our favorites are St. John in the USVI and Cat Island in the Bahamas...I'll also say that we tend to stay at more remote places 'cause we just really want to unplug. When planning your amount of time away you need to remember that from where we live the logistics of travelling to Caribbean/Bahamas eats up a significant amount of time (when we first stared going to USVI it would takes us almost 3 days to get to our final destination). end me a PM if you want more details.
