Whoa! Are they legal to shoot?
Is there only a certain time of year if so
Not much for snakes around my state. I'm kinda intrigued yet apprehensive of those boogers

I'd have to agree on the cactus, it's worth watching out for that crap over rattlers, rattlers just need some salt and pepper.

I'm pretty sure you can shoot as many as you want any time you want, or shovel their heads off, or run them over and then back over and over and over them just to be sure like my mom does. That one of buckbulls would make a cool hatband that is a big one. Yucky. I have only tried it once but it did need some salt and pepper, a little bland I thought, I was a little creeped out by the thought of it though if I have to admit it.

Man that pic crosscreeks posted is a trip!! A rattler navigating snow. Crazy.

I have worked or spent time out of doors in AZ, CO, KY, TX and WY for substantial amounts of time. By a very large margin, the most rattlers I saw was in WY when we worked Boysen Reservoir (near Shoshone, WY). It got to the point where we were seeing so many, we literally looked before we did anything; taking a step, grabbing something off the ground, etc... Maybe it was just a good year for em or maybe it has something to do with the reservoir being right there. I don't know.

Ironically, I have yet to see a rattle snake here in AZ. Seen some Gila monsters, bunches of non-venomous snakes but no rattlers.

I've killed more rattlers living here in nw Wyoming in three years than I saw total my whole life living in southern Utah, nv, az combined....if you want to really understand how much cactus there is in wy come when it is blooming... you wont believe how much land is covered with cactus blooms.....only saw 3 wolves this week, rarely are they waking us up this year howling behind the house, something must have shifted them, but bears? holy crap are there a lot this year, saw 6 different grizz the other day all in a few hours, granted I was looking for them but that's still a lot. fall when they are feeding on moths there may be more than a dozen on one slope at one time. makes you really say some prayers to Our Lady of Blessed 12 gauge slugs, don't fail me now.

We see them occasionally in the Ruby mountains of Nevada. A couple of years ago my son and I made stands about 100 yards apart in a big aspen grove and when I swung back around to him at dark there was a rattler about 6 feet behind his chair.

Pretty much a general consensus in the west is be on the look out for em in Sept...I've seen a few in Oct at 5,000 ft elevation (Nevada) but it was a late winter that year.

I was up checking trail cams today and saw one on the way out. Right before dark maybe 26" 4 or 5 rattlers. Couldn't get my gun out in time and it made it into a cattle guard. It was laying in the road right in front of the cattle guard when I saw it. Kind of skinny. First one I have seen in 3 or 4 years.

I'm always extra carefull when checking water in stock tanks and troughs. I find they like to hide under them during the heat of the day.

Walked some friends out the front door last night, I saw a wolf spider in the corner of the porch so I went and got the bug spray. As I am spraying the spider I look back at my 2 year old standing in the doorway and what do I see? This SOB sitting about two feet from my kid. Put on the boots and grabbed the shovel and he was dead meat but it sure was scary. Just a juvenile with only 3 rows of rattle. I may live on the edge of the desert but it's a regular ol neighborhood with close houses so this was definitely surprising. Needless to say it's going to be a while until I let my kid run around the backyard unsupervised! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1439058994.425096.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1439059004.359771.jpg

100_1478.jpg I ran into this one and two others during one stalk on a antelope hunt in MT. It must have been close to a den, because I haven't ran into any on other hunts or on any other stalks during that hunt. It definitely reminded me to pay attention though:)

Me; I'd rather deal with that snake than that spider! I don't know what a Wolf Spider looks like, but it sounds scary!!

Believe me you don't want to know! They are big nasty lookin buggers! That's why I pulled out the bug spray, I wasn't getting anywhere near that sucker! It was a double whammy of s#%t you don't want to see on your front porch especially when your 2 year old is standing next to you!

I live in southern Nevada and we have wolf spiders down here too. They do get pretty big and scary looking but they aren't dangerous to humans. If they are outside I usually leave them alone but not if they are near the doors or in my shed. I smashed one with a stick once and it has dozens of babies on its back, you should have seen me doing the spider dance.
Around here I am always on the lookout for black widows. I have a lot less now that I have gotten rid of a lot of junk around the yard. I would go out after dark and look for them with a flashlight, the most I ever killed in one night was 12.

Almost got hit by this guy today! Almost stepped on him! We were out scouting for antelope and getting the rifles dialed in. I got lucky! 13 rattles.
