For those of you interested in the snow goose migration- Thousands of geese showed up last night and this morning. We will be in the decoy spreads in the morning!

Hopefully we have some pictures for you Monday. You South Dakota guys get ready as the birds will be there in a day or two. Mobs of them moving north.

Used to hunt in Texas (Dalhart) for winter snows. Only trouble is that most of the Juveniles have already been shot and the adult birds that are left are really smart. Very decoy & call shy even with a 1000 or more decoys out.

Good luck.................

It is tough hunting but there aren't any fish to catch and no other seasons open... may as well go! My best days have been with 100-150 decoys in the right spot. I'm not a huge spread guy. I do a mixed Canada/snow spread and really spread them out in family groups.

Hope it will last through next weekend. I'm going hunting in Kansas south of Superior on the 13th & 14th. Do me a favor Hilltop and always shoot on the North side of the flock to keep them there. ;)

LOL.. will do what I can. Hate to say it, but I am betting 90% of the birds will be in the Dakotas by then. Hope I'm wrong as I would love them to hang out a while here too.

For spring the north western Missouri guys have the most birds concentrated if you hit it right. I haven't hunted with any of them personally so I won't recommend one. Google search mound city snow goose hunts. They have over 1 million geese there at times on the refuge. I hear the best fall snow goose hunts are the early fall ones in Canada. The videos make the birds look like they have never seen a hunter before.

Heading out tonight to set up 3,000 fullbodies... We've got about 300,000 roosting on a nearby lake, hope to make some noise in the morning.

The NW corner of the state can be good, but most everything up that way is leased up. Anywhere along the MO river bottoms is excellent, and most of the farmers have no problems granting access to shoot those wheat eating vermin.

Try to find an outfitter that doesnt hunt just one or two permanent spreads. A lot of the guys up around Mound City/ Squaw set a big permanent spread, and really only kill birds on the big flight days, maybe once a week or less.. When they get into the birds, they really pound them, but its not very consistent.

The guys that move with the birds do tons better.

They're still leaving out in waves down here so even if they leave there's more on the way. Good luck, hope it's a fun shoot.

I'm heading to South Dakota on the 18th and start hunting on the 23rd! I can't wait. I've got my A-400 extreme with 10 round extension tube ready to point skyward!

Being around the largest concentrations is not always the best hunting. Big feeds and adult birds can mean a lot of birdwatching. I've hunted a couple weeks after "the birds were gone" and had some great shoots. Scouting and being on the x is key in those situations and it's more like a fall hunt but those are the times we've had some of the best finishing birds and quickest piles. Don't be discouraged if you are behind the peak. I'd much rather be there than in front of it.

I really want to hunt snow geese sometime probably next year, so I'd be interested in an outfitter also in either North or South dakota.

I shoot a lot of geese, mostly honkers. Used to shoot almost all snows when I lived in California. In a good year here I shoot 100 to 125 honkers. I make lots of jerky out of them. Legs & thighs get pressure cooked and are used to supplement my Labs food.

I personally don't think snow geese are as good eating as honkers. Speckle Bellies are the best of all.
