Sheep Hunting Books?

Anybody know of any good sheep hunting books? I've go lots of books on mule deer, elk, etc., from eastmans and others that have been really helpful, and would like to find the same type of book for sheep hunting. I was gonna search on-line but figured I'd ask for any reccomendations on here first. Having no sheep hunting experience some tips and tactics type information would be nice. Thanks!

My old friend Duncan Gilchrist did several books on Big Horn Sheep. "Montana Land of Giant Rams" he did two books on Big Horns. Some stories and it's a unit by unit sheep break-down for Montana the information is old but still has value. In the books he did a section on judging sheep which is great stuff. Also many years ago he did a book call :"Trophy Rams of the Brooks Range" a good read. Duncan was a bush pilot and guide in the 70's in Alaska and took a B&C Dall. He is a noted sheep hunter of old. He also did a book on Mountain Goats and one on Black Bear which have excellent information on judging. You will have to go on line and find them like Amazon used books. Duncan pass away several years ago and I miss our talks. Good Luck! Mike Eastman

Thanks for the replies... Duncan Gilchrist name has come up a few times in my searching. Doesn't sound like there's to much out there. I'll try to find the books you both mentioned on-line.

Lots out there, you just really have to dig for it. I live in Alaska and the used book store is a Gold Mine! : )

I think there is a lot more money to be made writing about other critters as sheep hunting is just a dream for most folks. I think the best bet is to join the Wild Sheep Foundation and get their magazine. Bound to be lots of good stories in there!

No, I don't live by Fort Collins. When I originally posted this I had just drawn a Colorado Sheep tag and was looking for any information I could get since I had never hunted Sheep. I will say I'm more of a Sheep nut now, after the hunt, than I was before and during the hunt! I would still like to read some of these books but since the hunts over I'm not as motivated now as I was. I'll probably keep an eye out for some of them and pick them up over time. Thanks for everybody's help!

So that IS your sheep in your avatar...did you post any pics on here? Love to see some of the hunt. Sheep are one of the main reasons I moved here. Couldn't afford to apply every year as a non-resident!

Yes, my avatar is of the ram I took in September. I haven't posted any pics on here. I guess I could?... have to figure out how to do it first! I apply in a few states for sheep tags too. Like you said "I can't afford to apply every year as a non-resident!" but now I'm thinking I can't afford not to!!!

My personal favorite are the Tony Russ Books it gives you a real good idea what your in for with sheep hunting, also as mentioned before Andy Russel Horns in High Country.
