Shed Hunting

You guys hear about this? What do you all think? I don't shed hunt myself except when I stumble across them bird hunting but this has got to tick some people off I bet.

Yeah I don't like it. But I think you can take a class to hunt them during that time. But I usually wait until march when they have fully dropped and start changing patterns a little.

Its because we have idiots harassing animals and driving quads where they aren't supposed to be. I hear in Ely during this Time of year people are nuts for the elk sheds.

I shed hunt, and I agree with these types of regs. They protect the animals when they are most worn-down from a long winter. Even guys on foot will push stressed animals long distances, using calories they can't afford to be burning.

No one likes change. That being said, if it lowers the physical and mental stress level of muleys during the months where they are likely to winter kill then I would be all for it.

Yeah it definatly does suck that this passed but some people are just stupid when it comes to quads and chasing deer and elk and messing with them and even taking there quads off the roads. And it is true that this time of the year around ely that everyone is out there looking for sheds and in a way its kinda a race to get to them! Ive even heard in like Idaho where shed hunting is really popular that when the season does open theres people that campout in a line with other people to try and race to get the sheds because so many people are doing it now!

So I wonder, if your just out call'n a few dogs during the shed hunting closure and come across a shed or two can you pic them up or do you have to leave them lay.

So if a deer drops a set in your yard do you have to mow around them until mid-Apr?

I agree with the law. Although it doesn't affect me because I don't live there, but I understand why the law is in place. I try to take a trip every year some where west to scout, hike, and shed hunt. We have tried to plan to be there around the time shed hunting opens but have never made it.

I enjoy watching hunting shows but once again I think they can bring light on some areas that people may not have been that interested in and now are making it a bigger and bigger event. I can think of one show that I have only noticed the last couple years that I think made it big by their shed hunting and when people see that everyone wants to do it and then you get the madness.

That's funny...lol I'm guessing the laws would only apply to public land? Could be some interesting questions come up.

Saw a small buck yesterday here in SW Colorado that still hard all his head gear...I was dumbfounded. Thought they had all dropped by now.
