There is a little bit of a shakeup in the firearms industry the last few days.

Ruger is purchasing Marlin

Sierra gets Barnes

Vista gets Remington ammo

Franklin Armory gets Bushmaster

The sad thing is that Remington as we knew ceased to exist years ago.

I hope the quality control on Marlin goes up under Ruger. I have a couple lever guns I really like the look of, but didn't want to purchase with all the rumors I read of "Remlins". My old Marlins are good guns. That 1894SBL in 44 magnum or the 1895SBL in 45-70 look like perfect options to take to Alaska on a fishing trip. I'll pack a pistol in a chest holster but I still like to have a rifle along in the raft and at camp. My wife is way more comfortable with a rifle than a hard recoiling handgun.

Marlin....meh...

"If a man wants him a lever gun look no further than a Henry..." Truer words have never been spoken and they make a fine .22.....Its like butter.

the shotgun would be way easier to clean after a river trip, than a lever rifle.
something to think about.
