I just saw an article in Petersens Hunting magazine that started off with that Senate vote tally. This happened in March of this year. I hadn't heard of it before, but the fact that the Senate passed it is indeed troubling. Senator and congressmen contact is needed it seems. I think there'll be a lot of pissed off hunters/fishermen/photogs/ birdwatchers, etc. They're adding a rider in the budget bill to facilitate funding. Anyone hear of this?

Is there any statistic that shows the percentage of these lands that have been paid for with hunter/fisherman tax dollars? (ie the PITTMAN ROBERTSON ACT, etc) It seems that the feds are giving away something that isn't entirely theirs monetarily speaking. Simply put because we pay you to oversee it doesn't mean you have the right to transfer the title...

The Feds own, for lack of a better term, more than half the land within the borders of Oregon. All that is needed to close this huge acreage to hunting is a pair of anti-gun /anti hunting Federal employees in the right office. Believe me there is no shortage of state employees to applaud such a move, and with out opposition from the State of Oregon such a move would be a walk over. Folks who enjoy controlling others seem to gravitate toward government work but inside the state about a third of the OF&W budget comes from hunting license fees. Im convinced this is the primary reason hunting exists at all in out state. None of the money that the Forest Circus-BLM use comes directly from hunters. A precarious position.
If so much land must be in the hands of government I much prefer state/local over Federal.
