Plan for a zoo and hope for just pressure is my advice. Guessing you are talking about the Custer NF between there and Ashland. There is a thread or two on that here someplace. I'd really try to get on a BMA that takes reservations.

10-4 Thanks Tim. We really hadn't dialed in any specific areas just yet. I am on the mailing list for the BMA properties once they open up mid August. I see Custer NF to the west, but I also see quite a bit of BLM and State land to the east of Broadus as well; We're just trying to find decent lodging with public land in the general area. I like having multiple options at our disposal to get away from the crowds!

In region 7 The rancher that has BMA 311 has a bunkhouse that he lets out it is cheap , but you may not have it to yourself I think there are 5 beds in it , an outhouse outside , When you get the Block management guide and get his contact info you can ask him . I don't know if he lets it out if you aren't hunting his place or not . I am also sending you a PM with more info

Thanks again to everyone for the replies. To my surprise, websites like VRBO and AirBnB had virtually no listing in SE montana for a group of 4-6 (with the exception of a few in downtown miles city).
Not exactly the airbnb crowd. lol

Maybe it's been said, but why not spend all the money from a hotel, and buy a nice 12x16 wall tent and a stove. It's a good investment. We have always found a spot on BLM to camp out there. Some BMA areas will let you camp as well. You also get to eliminate a lot of driving back and forth to a hotel. In all the years of hunting eastern Montana during the Rut, we have only had one ridiculously cold year. I am sure many of you remember 2014, 10 inches of snow and -15° with the wind screaming. We kept the fire going and stayed very warm in the wall tent. Hope you figure it out to wherever you end up.

X2 on camping. A quality tent, heat source, good cot, and a heavy sleeping bag are incredibly comfortable after a day in the field.

About camping on state land, used to be ok but I think there is now a limit or maybe can't at all? Worth checking before you go.
