I have only lived and hunted in SD since 2008 but a lot has changed in that amount of time. GF&P went from issuing triple goat tags in the county I hunted, to now requiring points to draw a tag. I'm not sure how much EHD affects them but I do know the harsh winters took their toll.Awesome bucks! What is the latest on SD deer n antelope? I have points for both but it looks like no lope tags are being issued to nonresidents and very few west river deer tags.
From what I've seen, deer are a similar story. I would say numbers are generally down statewide but the west river deer have been impacted more. EHD killed a lot of deer in the south central part of the state in 2012 after the flooding.
That being said, huntable numbers do exist in most areas imo. If you're the type of guy that is willing to hunt a lower population of animals to avoid crowds, SD might be worth looking into.
These are simply my observations and I am in no way an expert. Maybe Retterath can touch on what i've said?
