My cousin shot a nice mule deer but I hunted really hard for mule deer for a week and found nothing nice to shoot there were a ton of mulie does ,buck numbers are terrible. I have a couple buddies that hunted in nd badlands this and saw some dandys I really want to go after some mulies with rifle but not sure where to head now.

Just about zero chance at getting a non resident ND rifle tag for muleys. Bow hunting would be your only option here. I've been thinking about getting a res tag. Did you have an enjoyable hunt and were you able to get away from other hunters much?

Ando_31. There were a ton of out of state hunters and just when I walk in a mile to what is an awesome spot a look over to another hill and there is a vehicle driving around ridges checking ravines for deer, lots of vehicles drive all over off trails. There is tons of awesome country but it gets drove a lot. I heard a rumor from the tribe counsel that they were only going to give a few non member tags out this next year and that u were only able to hunt with a tribal guide. Who knows though. I used to hunt in the nd badlands when I lived in nd, I just moved down to mobridge a year ago, the badlands were my favorite place to hunt.shot my first mule deer north of belfield on upper magpie rd if that sounds familiar.

Yes I know the area well. That's getting into the buzz of the oil traffic. The badlands are also my favorite place to hunt.

Those are some dandy whitetails you've taken there. I wouldn't be able to pass them up since its been a few years since I've seen a whitetail that size after all the EHD going around in western ND. That is a shame about running into all that off roading traffic on the reservation. I've heard mixed reports about the res hunting. From the sounds of it if you're willing to get out of your vehicle and walk you have a huge advantage over most of the people hunting. If it turns into a guided hunt only then I will certainly pass on hunting the reservation. I like the whole hunt to be a personal achievement rather than just doing my part by making a good shot. Where abouts in ND were you living?

Yeah there's no way I would pay someone to guide me there. I lived in valley city till 2009 then moved to Jamestown to work for MDU and then transferred to mobridge and really love it here. I just ordered a DVD called the rivers divide, it's says it in the heart of the nd badlands comes a story two years in the making. (Donnie Vincent) the guy that made the movie, he has been bow hunting some whitetail for several years in the badlands. Have you heard of it? We had EHD down here also west of mobridge got hit hard. My neighbor is a game warden and said that in one day he had a count of 70 dead whitetails.

Congrats very nice bucks! I have never hunted either of the Dakotas but have been back there some and have been through the ND bad lands and alot of NW SD and SW ND. It sure neat country! I have good friends in Hettinger, ND so I try to get back there once or twice a year!

Awesome bucks! What is the latest on SD deer n antelope? I have points for both but it looks like no lope tags are being issued to nonresidents and very few west river deer tags.
