I got all excited that I drew the Trout Creek Rifle unit- until I realized I misread the result. I actually pulled the second choice of High Cascades. I was not familiar with this tag- and I hunt every year. You can hunt early and if you don't tag, you can use the tag for general rifle.

I hunted Alsea the last couple of seasons, but it got creepy last year, so I am glad to move to the Cascades. Has anyone here pulled this tag (119A) before?

There’s a reason it can be drawn as a second choice. I’ve had the tag many times in the last 30 plus years. I’ve shot two deer on that hunt.

Ore hunter gave solid info. The burn is about the only place that has any decent number of deer. I’ve had a tough time getting away from other hunters, even 6 miles in I run into competition.

To be honest I think ODFW should have deleted this hunt about 10 years ago.

You might look at the area of last years whitewater burn. Burns are about the only chance we have of good habitat in the Cascades anymore. I’ve just about given up deer hunting the Cascades after hunting deer there since 1982, the deer just aren’t there like they were when logging was active.
