I just picked up a savage model 16 weather warrior in 22-250. The gap between the bottom of the barrel and the stock is quite large. I can fit the shaft of a screw driver between them. So it's approx a 3/16" gap. I have 2 other weather warrior and the gap is not nearly at large.

I have had the action out of the stock 3 times. Everything seems fine. Action screws are torqued to 40 inch pounds. All other fit areas seem fine.

Just curious what your thoughts are. I just purchased it Wednesday brand new.

I'll see if I can get a couple photos to upload.

Edit... apparently I don't know how to add photos with my phone

First thing I'd do is call Savage and ask them what are their +/- parameters for this gap. If it is within spec, you can minimize it by bedding the barrel channel. If you decide to do that, PM me and I'll get you on the right track for doing it.

Hopefully this works. Finally got to a computer. This is the before picture. Larger than 3/16 of an inch gap. I ended up getting a hold of Savage on Monday. Was told that sounded like to much. They shipped me a new stock and said if that didnt work then I'd have to ship it to them. I got it yesterday and installed it.

Here is that it looks like now. It is significantly less. Still not as small at my 7-08 or my 7 mag in the same model, but I think I can live with it now.
