Anyone here have an opinion on Savage 110 rifles? I see BPS is having a Black Friday Special on Savage rifles and was thinking about getting one in a 6.5 Creedmoor. I need another rifle like I need a hole in my head , but what the hell it is Christmas coming up and there is 175.00-200.00 dollar rebate on them. They are offering the 110 Hunter and the 110 Storm. Happy Pre-Thanksgiving TD

I have heard nothing but good about then.

If I was in the market for a new rifle they would be on my list to check out

Thanks Jim P. All my previous rifles were Remington 700's and shotguns were Brownings thru preferences and friends referrals. Have heard great things about Savage rifles but did not know much about them. Sold the wife that I may need a softer shooting rifle as I get older(yeah took it hook line & sinker) :)

While it isn't a Savage 110 or 6.5 Crede I picked up a Weatherby Vangard .25-06 a few years ago and love it. I shot the coues deer in my avatar with it and watched it fall over when the bullet hit. The shot was 420 yards..

I have killed quite a few animals now with my Savage 110, and the 111 before that. Both shoot lights out and I have zero complaints, truly a blue collar killing machine.

Took this fellow this year with a Savage 110 Apex Hunter XP in 7mm-08 rem. It's SKU 57305 if you want to look it up. I love the 20" barrel combined with the 7mm-08. It's a lightweight but hard-hitting combo that let me make this shot offhand, with him quartering away, at 150yds. I was told this was way too light to take elk - you be the judge.

You have me convinced. Thanks for all the positive replies. Now it’s a matter of getting they the BPS gun line. Which could be a problem. Thx TD

How many guys & gals on this forum have a 6.5 Creedmoor. I am thinking about purchasing one of these at the per say sale that i had mentioned. But after reviewing the ballistics I am not sure what the rave is all about. Am I missing something? Thinking about a 26-06 instead. Please give me some feed back, thx TD

Personally I went with the 25-06 over the Creedmore. But then I have a thousand or so empty once fired 30-06 cases that I can use.

What it really comes down to is a short action vs a long action

To get technical there are three action types. Short, long, and magnum.

Short actions are just that, shorter than the others. The bolt doesn't need to travel as far backwards before ejecting and picking up another round than a long action. They are also suppose to be lighter than the long and magnum actions but anymore they are pretty much all the same provided that the rifle is offered in both types.

A .308 Winchester is a example of a short action along with quite a few others including some of the newer short magnums.

A .30-06 is a example of a long action along with the others in it's class. The case is longer than the .308 Win. Some of the cartridges in this family are the .270 Win, 25-06 Rem, along with quite a few others.

If you stood a .308 Win case next to a .30-06 case you would notice the difference. The 6.5 Creedmore is close to the same size as the .308 Win where the .25-06 is the same size as the .30-06...

My kids use a 7mm-08 and my wife uses a 25-06. We've killed a lot of animals with both, the 7mm-08 is one of my favorites it hits hard and has a fairly wide selection of bullets available. The only negative experience I have had with the 25-06 was with cheap ammo, it has performed flawlessly with premium ammo. Both are very fun to shoot with mild recoil for the performance they offer. Looking at ballistics I have always felt that the 7mm-08 is superior to the 6.5 CM for actual hunting situations and bullet weight flexibility. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah Sawfish, I looked at the ballistics and that's the way I felt about it too. Just wanted a light recoil rifle for antelope or deer. Got a couple shoulder thumpers for elk when needed.
